Golf beats a Bugatti..!

LOL OcUK motors

It's at the fact it's in The Sun, and the bloke in the story saying how his car is better than a Veyron.

The car in question is a damn good car, don't get me wrong, I like cars like this, it's just the way it's reported. If they'd done a piece on the car itself saying how he'd modified it and pride and joy etc. fine.

Where did he say it's 'better'? He claims it's quicker up the 1/4 mile (which may or may not be true), and it has a better power-to-weight ratio (which is undisputably true), but does he actually claim it's a 'better' car?

Ok, so I just acted like the paper that reported it. :p

The way the article is done it's claiming it's better, granted the bloke doesn't say it's better than the Veyron.

Which is entirely my point. Forget the Veyron altogether, The Sun has just shoehorned that in for the moronic demographic that the article is aimed at.

I'm sure the owner himself would be the first to admit that the Veyron is a better car in almost every way.

The ‘Scum’ is banal, cheap and nasty pap created for the masses, much of who consume its content as factual and insightful gospel, sadly. My ‘chav blocker’ comment was relating to said 'dirge paper' and was nothing to do with the chap and his Gloff. I like Capri's, MK2 Escorts and Chevettes and I is dead posh, well OK I know some people who speak propa and I have the god parents of top line royalty as a neighbour....so that makes me, er, staff I suppose! :D

Yes but they make a loss per car come sales time don't they?

The golf was never sold at a loss to the original owner, he then got the thing for £50 and spent 60k making it a "Hypercar killer", my point is the Bugatti actually cost 5 million per car, not the 900k the customer buys it for, so inorder to get the Bugatti to do what it does its a 5 million investment not a 900k investment to build a car.

This means my overall point is its taken Bugatti 5 million to build a car that can actually do high speed for long periods of time with all that weight and still be almost as fast as a stripped out big engined golf, making the idea of a 60k golf vs a Bugatti even more stuipid.

I kind of see your point if you are refering to some sort of prototype program where your not interested in volume production and passing various automotive requirements such as crash and emissions.

Its cost Bugatti a staged build price to do R&D, tool up and then make the cars to work out at £5M each. To make a mark on the general public is had to be sold at a price that people would still pay for it else it turns into a pretty useless loss leader.

How much do you think the 550bhp Golf W12 ONE OFF cost to make? If you really want to compare to the guys in advanced engineering studios at the OEM's?

No it cost 5million per car when considering R&D. Every car they sell this is reduced as the profit from the sale offsets R&D costs until at some point in a year or two they make an overall profit on the car.

Exactly.
If they were going to lose £4m on every single car produced it would've been a very limited production run. Instead, they've even added another variant.

I like his car. Then again I have a soft spot for mk1 white GTI's :)

Certainly aint a chav-mobile. This is a labour of love by a car enthusiast.

I didn't see everyone making this many derogatory remarks when our very own L1J took a mk2 golf and worked it into a track weapon. Only difference is the amount of money this guy spent and the fact that a tabloid newspaper sensationalised it.

Get a grip people....
