Oddly enough, I personally think it is Liverpool. Its my understanding that we have £18 million in our kitty for summer, if we dont sell anyone. If thats the case, then if we get Johnson Rafa will need to sell someone to fund a further purchase. People have been sniffing around for Arbeloa, Dossena and Benayoun...so I could see one or more of those going. In the meanwhile though, I reckon the bid thats in for Johnson is from Liverpool.

I also think he will accept and move.
 
Although I wouldn't object to signing Johnson, as we need another rb and he could potentially become a decent RM too, I would cry if we pay anything over £9m for him.

I don't think and really hope it's not us that has made the ~£15m offer.
 
Maybe but the article I read had a quote from Pompey's CEO mentioning something about not standing is his way if a CL side came in for him. But then again, Barry left Villa for CL football too.
 
Portsmouth confirmed that the bid "wasn't a million miles away from £15-18mill". Rafa rarely over-pays for players, so I can expect it to be around £10-£12mill if we have submitted it.
 
Speaking to a few Chelsea fans today who really didn't want him to re-join them. I think he would slot in nicely at Liverpool, If Johnson performs well on the big stage and replicates his performance for England like the other night, on a regular basis then I think he'd do well at Anfield. Just have to hope the Yanks put up the cash first.
 
Personally I would not pay £12m for Johnson. I think he's an average right back with some qualities going forward, but a lot of defensive weakness.... however, we do need a right back badly and with the need to have English players in the squad, I can understand paying that much for him.

But I would certainly not pay £15m+... no thank you sir!

So far, as a Liverpool fan, this transfer window has made me depressed :(

I hope Benitez knows what he's doing! I dont want another season of missing out of trophies because Gerrard and Torres are injured with no depth to back them up.
 
Personally if i was Liverpool coach id be looking at strengthen other areas than right back which is arguebly the most solid spot on the pitch. arbeloa is a good attacking right back with good defensive capabilities... hes not had injury problems or performance issues ive noticed from the matches...

why not use the money and improve ur attacking line up :S its confusing where benitez gets his ideas.

as far chelsea buying him well i dont know why they'd want to as right back is pretty well covered with an excellent Bosingwa and Essien to step in if he gets injured as we've seen plenty of times hes very capable of doing.

plus the fact Glen Johnson is a terrible defender and not exactly great at attacking. 1 good game against andorra and the kneejerk reaction is ridiculous. he was disgraceful against Khazakstan in the first half. i just dont rate him one bit.
 
Not only have Chelsea got Bosingwa but they've also got Ivanovic, the only reason we'd be after Johnson is if Bosingwa was about to leave.

Well both Setanta and Sky are reporting that 2 CL sides have made bids for him so it looks pretty certain that it's us and you so maybe Bosingwa is off. I hope you get him :)
 
i dont see why they would get rid of bosingwa, he has looked happy enough, hes played well, the team looks lon the up with some of the names supposedly being tried to pull in.

puzzling... for instance bayern munich supposedly want bosingwa, hmm i dont see the point in going there, they got trashed by Barca unlike chelsea and well the german league is about the 4th best league in the world so makes zero sense.
 
I dont see why anyone would pay that much for Johnson, he has the turning circle of a bus, and every time I've seen him play against anything other than absolute dross he gets turned inside out.
 
I see bbc are reporting that they have slapped a £90m price on ribery lol

With most of the big name movers going to RM whats going to be left ManU to replace Ronaldo with?

Any news on any Arsenal signings?
 
According to Zidane, Madrid still want Ribery. That would just be obscene to be honest, Kaka, Ronaldo, (probably) Villa and then Ribery. It's like when you played Championship Manager as a kid and cheated to give yourself unlimited transfer funds.

Personally I would love to see that. Would be an amazing team to watch. Just missing messi from the list!
