Scary Games

Isn't Cyrostatis (or whatever it was called) supposed to be pretty creepy? Then there's always those Clive Barker games or Condemned games... :)

Yeah, that Clive Barker game called 'Undying' - that made me jump a bit.
'The Suffering' is another frightening one as long as you can handle the 5 year old graphics;)

Imho the best fps and most scary game I've ever played was Fear. Such a well put together game. Just shame it wasn't an FPS / RPG but you can't have everything.

try the Fatal Frame series - proper Japanese style horror.

Eternal Darkness on the Gamecube - One of the most original horror games out there with its sanity effects.

Second for condemned.

Call of Cthulhu is pretty scary at times and just damn disturbing most of the way through.

I didn't realise I hated crazy knife-wielding dentists until I 'stumbled' across one in Bioshock :(
One of the biggest pant-filling moments of my life. I had to pause and stop for a moment just to catch my breath.

So, try Bioshock, Condemned, Clive Barker's Undying (not Jericho though!) or Doom III. They all scared the crap out of me (which isn't difficult :().

Surely surround sound would make these sort of games much more scary, as then you'd have monster noises coming from the corner of your room!

yeah headphones and at night with the lights out.

Love it when something pops out at you and scares the **** out of you, you feel like a wee kid lol.

Penumbra is pretty cheap on steam lately. Put the game on at night, low contrast, high sound through headphones, downstairs on your own, and play, and poop yourself.

Football Manager. 1-0 up in the Champions League final. Backs to the wall. 5 mins to go. Eeeeeeeeeeeeek. Squeaky bum time.

On a serious note, Deadspace is the only recent game I've played I'd consider scary on any level. Gets a bit dull quite quickly though.

Dead Space has it's moments but I found it mainly startling, but then again I'm rarely scared by games.

Project Zero II: Crimson Butterfly, bit dated but still good and supposed to be very scary.

Another vote for Penumbra, that is the only game to make my stop playing it due to worrying my heart may explode, you get no weapons and you have to solve puzzles while being terroized by numerouse shambling horrors.
