Scary Games

For some reason I found ghoul like creatures scary in all games, especially the sound effects they tend to make. It basically makes my spine shiver even though I'm not actually 'scared' per se.

Painkiller, Fallout 3, RTCW etc all have them, plus those cloaked baddies in FEAR that could climb walls etc.

Another vote for silent hill 2. I played it once, 5 years ago and never forgotten it. Still the scariest so far. Although all the HL2 games are surprisingly scary in places.

Are people being seriouse when they say Fear is scary?

I thourght it was a laughable attempt at horror....

I thought it had quite a few jumpy bits myself. It doesn't have a consistently creepy atmosphere like Dead Space does, but the moments they do try to scare you work pretty well.

HL2 - Ravenholm - headphones - no lights

I keep seeing people quote this, and I have wonder why. Sure, there are few moments that make you jump, but nothing that is remotely chilling, or that gives a sense of oppressing doom and genuine fear.

System Shock 2 is a decent example; it's pretty much relentless in the way it keeps you on the edge of your seat, but again, nothing I'd call "scary".

The only time I have ever felt anything approaching fear (not the game, that was laughable) is The Cradle. That was a genuinely unpleasant experience. Soup-herb design.

Resident Evil on PSX is pretty scary. The first time those dogs jumped through the windows I almost crapped myself! :p

Also Dead Space is very atmospheric in my opinion, and strangely Fallout 3 as well. I constantly turn around when I'm exploring in the wastes, hoping that a Giant RadScorpion isn't chasing me! Those, and the Centaurs just creep me out royally. :(

* Shivers *

Great, I've just started playing Fallout 3 and I wasn't scared before, but I am now! :p

Hello Kitty: Island Adventures scariest stuff ive ever seen!!!

Nah, i agree bioshock had its chilling moments that had me proecting urine acros the room.
I found deadspace a little to much bang not enough suspense.
Bioshock = japanese horror,
Deadspace = american horror without the blonde with giant boob's

both are fun to play only one is scary.

Seriously! The Centaurs tongue is just the creepiest thing ever! And I don't know what it is about the giant RadScorpions, but hearing them scurrying around behind you is slightly unnerving, Even more so when you turn around to see a pair of giant pincers, a huge stinger and these scurrying legs. It makes me pick my feet up off the floor and put them on the sofa. :eek:

Ok, my top 5 scary games:

1. Condemned: Criminal Origins
2. Clive Barker's Undying
3. System Shock 2 with mods
4. 7th Guest (yep, it's old)
5. Doom (1, 3, 2 in that order)

Oh and here's a weird one:

SWAT 4 - the level with the kidnapper :eek: by the end of it, you wish you had a flamethrower.

Actually... Mentioning weird ones like that, I'd have to add Operation Flashpoint to my list. Scared the pants off of me when you're hiding in the woods from the Russians, Knowing that your whole squad is dead. You're surrounded by russkies and your evac is about 25 minutes real time running distance.
