which is better for the operating system and games
the apex has faster read speeds, but the vertex has some cache.

some help please

Apex - if it's for OS and apps you'll be loading a lot more often than you'll be writing (cache is most useful when writing, rather than reading). You write every file once, then read it hundreds of times.

Vertex - avoid the Apex, OS use is exactly the use not recommended for JMicron drives. Even though you get fast reads, you get stuttering when doing things like web browsing and other common tasks because of all the background saves that occur. The Vertex will be far better for your needs.
If you're on a budget, consider the Corsair S128. It has slower read/write speeds, but as has been discussed on this forum many a time, access times and IOPS are what make SSDs fast, not sequential read/write speeds, and so because they have cache, the Corsair S128 (and other first generation drives using the Samsung controller) will both far outperform regular HDDs and give you better overall performance than the Apex.

no budget in mind i have already tried 2 x ocz core seres v2 in raid 0 about a year ago but did not get good results just wondering if its moved on enough to give them a try again.
i have been reading its not worth raiding due to trim tool.

i love speed and am looking for the best drive that does operating system + games with fast load times

The only OCZ drive worth getting is the Vertex and the upcomming Agility series.

Core 1/2, Solid and Apex drives are all based on a flawed chipset design and are not worth investing money in imo.

or you could get a G skill falcon like i did (havent got it yet) since its basically a OCZ vertex anyway except its £70+ cheaper at the moment which is quite a difference for a drive of those speeds.

It's true that the currently available TRIM tool doesn't support RAID configurations, but this isn't a failure on the part of the SSD manufacturers, but rather will require drivers from the controller chipset manufacturers to operate correctly, and I cannot believe that the likes of Intel will not be looking to get this into mainstream use very soon - I expect it to be with the public release of Win7 as that should have native support of TRIM.

Yes or the G.Skill Falcon as Perfect Chaos says, it's the same drive as the Vertex only they've tweaked it for faster transfer speeds and it has a lower price. You just don't see it mentioned here as often because OCUK don't sell them.

Most people say vertex because the choice was vertex or apex :p
Falcon is practically the same drive but cheaper and without such good support. And if no budget.. well you may as well consider the Intels.

Out of curiosity what do you base that statement on? From what I've seen they use exactly the same firmware as OCZ, have exactly the same utilities as OCZ and exactly the same options for support.

What I meant was, OCZ's customer service is second to none in the SSD market. That's not to say you can't use the OCZ forum support with the Falcon. And other than the tweaks, in all likelihood you won't need to use the support available. The Falcon is a better choice IMO.

g skill used to be fairly fast on support when i needed ram replacing.

however, reading their forums SSD section i've seen a few unhappy customers there due to apparent (in their words) useless/slow support.

I have no idea what happend there since i used to contact one of the blokes over email and cant remember ever having trouble.
