**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Cant see you replacing him with someone better though.

Why does it have to be someone better to improve the team? Look at the galacticos last time, they became a joke despite buying half the best players in the world. So what they lost ronaldo, I bet Manu still score more goals next year than they did this year. Its a team game and ronaldo started to be a solitary figure in the team.

6 assists in 2008/9. A superstar that has long ago dissapeared up his own backside. It will fall apart at madrid. Far too many huge egos.

Calm down it was only a simple comment. I dont see your reasoning that replacing him with a worse player will make ManU a better team next year.

You sound a bit bitter though. It would be unlikely that a new player to come in and score as many goals as he did tho. Maybe torres?

Only time will tell if it was a good sell though. Lets wait and see...

Then you don't understand football at all. Everton lost the best player they had for over 20 years to manu and became a better team for it. The one season they had rooney for the full year they finished near the bottom.

There's more to building a good team than a superstar player whose lost application and desire.

When RVN went people said they couldn't replace his thirty odd goals per season. They just started coming from other areas. This thread will be worth bookmarking for all the doom and gloom merchants.

Why would I be bitter?

errm, Everton(who had finished what 7th the year before a bad 17th) may have sold Rooney, who scored 6/9 goals in his two years there, was replaced by Cahill who scored 11, Bent who scored 6, Beattie who was injured all first year, but his 2nd year when he actually played, got 10 goals.

Rooney WASN'T absolutely brilliant in his Everton days, he was pretty good, and showed the potential, but I would assume had lots of sub appearances and I wouldn't say he was the player who made the team.

But a 6/9 goal player who the team wasn't built around or reliant on as main goal scorer, is different to a player who scored 42 goals in the year you won the league and Champs league, pretending the situations are even remotely similar is beyond ridiculous. Rooney also wasn't the main playmaker and link between midfield/strikers, where Ronaldo with his pace and ability to run with the ball is the guy who drives the team forward game after game.

His leaving won't turn the team into a pile of crap, but pretending hits 42/26 total goals in the past two years, and 7/6 assists is simply far better than anyone else at the club, heck pretty much the world. Having a go at his assists is a little laughable, the previous year to that he had 17 goals and 16 assists.

Is it worth mentioning the year he had the massive number of assists, the club had RVN and Rooney had his highest scoring year, 37 goals between them. Since then its not his lack of creating chances, its the lack of a real finisher who stays in the box. He'd still be getting 17 assists a season if they had a Villa/RVN/Eto'o who stayed upfront.

Do you even watch football? lol he may have wanted to leave but he was still your best player. I guess you know less than you think you do. ;)

As for Rooney he was not their best player, he was their most promising player. There is a difference.

Can you quote where I said anything about doom and gloom for ManU? I simply said that they wouldnt be as good without him. I never said that they wouldnt win anything ever again.

Being a ManU fan and "all knowing about football" you should be able to tell me how well ManU play with and without him? Would be interesting to know.

Sky Sports News understands that talks will begin with all interested parties hoping to sign Carlos Tevez on Monday and Tuesday.

Representatives of the Argentina striker will hold discussions with four clubs in the Premier League - Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.

Reports also suggest that one club in Italy and one in Spain are interested, although the Primera Liga side is not thought to be Real Madrid.

It is understood that Tevez himself will announce that he would prefer to stay in the Premier League.

The 25-year-old joined United on loan in 2007, but that deal expires at the end of June and speculation has suggested that the forward is ready to turn his back on Old Trafford.

Conjecture has implied that Tevez could view City as his preferred destination, with rumour suggesting the Eastlands outfit are prepared to offer a deal worth in the region of £140,000-a-week.

Would sum up our summer so far if he joined the Scousers of the City :(

Good riddance I say

His effectiveness last season was questionable (apart from in a very few matches), and he certainly isnt worth anything near £140k a week to Utd.

Im also sick of his comments to the press every other week

IF he had produced his 1st season's showing then it might have been different, but he didnt by a clear margin. I also dont think he is worth anything like the £30m+ we are expected to pay

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti is confident the club will strike an agreement with Chelsea for Portugal internationals Deco and Ricardo Carvalho.

The pair have been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge this summer, with Inter boss Jose Mourinho a known admirer having worked with both Deco and Carvalho at Porto.

Experienced centre-back Carvalho endured a frustrating campaign at the Blues last season, while Deco's debut term in the Premier League started brightly but then faded.

Moratti confirmed Inter are working hard to bring the duo to the Giuseppe Meazza, telling Gazzetta dello Sport: "(Inter coach Jose) Mourinho has asked us for Deco and Carvalho and we are working towards making him happy.

"Our wish is to sign both players and I have seen that the players' intention is to join us.

"We still haven't reached an agreement with Chelsea but I think we will do in a short time."

He added: "We are interested in Carvalho primarily for the UEFA Champions League. He has the right experience, he is calm under pressure and brings experience in the defensive line.

"Our coach has guaranteed quality and I have every intention to make him happy.

"Deco will have two tasks: to do well immediately and to help [Brazilian player Philippe] Coutinho mature as a player," said Moratti.

"Coutinho will arrive next season [from Vasco de Gama] and plays in the same role as Deco."

Carvalho moved to Chelsea in 2004 to work under Mourinho for a second time and last season injury restricted the 31-year-old to just 18 appearances.

Deco joined the Blues from Barcelona last summer but the 32-year-old also suffered injuries, making just 22 league appearances.

Surprised the Carvalho one never happened last year tbh but I guess Mourinho's hands we tied on the transfer market last season, this summer it looks like it's going to be different

Cant see you replacing him with someone better though.

We won't replace him, so the sooner that little debate is put to bed the better. But at the risk of soundling like a broken record it's a team game and any good team is usually worth more than the sum of it's individual parts. It has never been about Cristiano Ronaldo vs 11 players, it's always 11 v 11.

That's why the last Galactico era failed as you can put the best XI players in the world together but if they can't play as a team then it will fail at the highest level.

Completely agree, now that we have the money to get someone better we should be holding the door open for him and carrying his bags to the car. he's had two years to impress and has only done so in very short spells. He's never going to be the goalscorer we need and his lack of effort and repeated moaning to the press has shocked me this year.

Madness that a player whose main selling point is work rate is earning £140,000 per week. What is the world coming to, I feel ashamed to like football atm :(.

The paper saturday had ronaldo's EPL assist stats as

03 4
04 4
05 6
06 8
07 6
08 6

Your rooney argument goes against all your others about young players not getting better ;) He was Evertons best player when we finished 17th the season he played in full and we became a better team once we took the money. He thought he had become bigger than the club in the same way ronaldo has.

Losing Vidic would cause the united team to suffer more than Ronaldo. They can now play Rooney is a correct position and get the best out of him, give him a free role now.

Shows he's just after money. He could have a role in the united team and a decent wage but is being led in the direction of city money. He will use the excuse of his pride being dented in the later part of the season and not being loved enough.

Well if he gets the hump that easily let city pay the money.

To be fair to him he does look like all he wants to do is play first XI football, he's not good enough to get that at Man Utd though

How many starts did he get in 08/09? The amount of games united play per year you have to expect to get rested. He would get far more games now ronaldo looks to have gone.

Would he get much first team football at liverpool if he went there? Or just chasing the games and not the money at city?

Personally I think he's led by a man that gets a huge cut off him. That the best decisions for his career are being made by a man who makes the most from the whole saga.

Thats always been the problem - in a year he will be complaining because he doesnt get CL matches and so his form is worse than at Utd
