Two sides to every story.

BNP Leader Rejects ‘Politically Correct’ Sniping from ‘British Legion’

“I am not interested in being lectured by the politically correct brigade who are in subtle ways already dismantling or dishonouring British institutions and traditions.

“That said, I wore the poppy badge knowing that this would attract the attention of the politically correct police. By doing so, I am able to draw public attention to the disgraceful state of affairs whereby injured soldiers recovering in the Selly Oak hospital are being charged for watching television while criminals in prison enjoy such privileges at the taxpayers’ expense,” he said.

I wholeheartedly agree with him.

No, he wore it to show what a committed patriot he is, and try and associate his party with something respectable. Sadly the British Legion don't wish to be associated with the BNP and what they stand for. Btw, how is that the other side of the story? Wearing the poppy didn't draw attention to what M Griffin claims. His 'rebuttal' is irrelevant to being politically correct - it's just him trying to save face and deflect criticism for ignoring the British Legions call to stop using the poppy as a political tool.

So what is your thoughts on this? Crass political gesture or true patriot? I fall pretty much in the "crass political gesture" camp which is also my feelings to the constant wearing of poppies by politicians and celebreties during October.

It is political, but I don't hear the Legion complaining when other parties' politicians do it. Just the BNP. The 'open letter' is highly political and a typical misrepresentation of BNP policies.

They don't write letters to the other parties, because the other parties don't do it. They wear poppies during the remembrance period, not all year round.

Other parties embroil our troops in illegal wars which have no benefit to this country, resulting in hundreds of our soldiers being killed or maimed for no purpose. Other parties send our troops into battle with poor equipment. The BNP would not do this, yet it is only the BNP who they moan about. Most odd I think.

The BNP are yet to prove themselves. You have an amazing amount of blind faith if you think someone so ignorant to deny the holocaust happened would do a better job.

Maybe you should read all the posts, you might learn something ;)

I did read them, and the vast majority were dim-witted

"but it's not fair, he's a patriot, it's like the church. How dare they? Do they think they own the poppy emblem? Let's send a letter to the British Legion telling them we'll send them donations again once they stop being mean! Why won't anyone be our friend?"

type posts. Well boo-****ing-hoo.

But that isnt the issue here, the issue is the BNP using the poppy for political gain.

No purpose? What about furthering of our capitalist empires and stripping natural resources from the invaded countries? ;)

Those wars keep the status quo in check and gives us a few more years of an oil economy. Personally I'd have preferred we'd spent the billions the wars cost on renewable energy, but that's just me.

Back to the point at hand:
Griffin is clearly just using the Poppy as a stunt, and trying to get brain dead military men to rally to his cause. If it wasn't a stunt he wouldn't wear it so far outside of the remembrance period.

What a ****.

Nick Griffin is wrong in this case - prisoners have to pay 50p per week for their televisions.
