**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Thats not correct.

There are a lot of players who are not good enough (anymore) at united.

O'shea, Park, Giggs, Scholes, Berbatov, in a lot of peoples eyes Tevez, Nani, Anderson.

I am happy enough with Anderson and Nani if they got played in their right positions, but the rest could get run over by a bus and I would'nt miss them

Rooney, Ferdinand, Vidic, Carrick and Evra are better than anyone else in their positions in the league.

Park is a good player, under rated.
Giggs and Scholes are still good players.
Berbatov is a very good player.
Tevez is a very good forward, and a good team player.
Nani and Anderson (son son) are young, and are still learning.
I've never being a big fan of O'shea, but I'd hardly call him a bad player.

Don't Carrick and Evra play in the same positions as Essien and Cole?

Carrick is a good player, Essien is a better player.
Isn't much between Evra and Cole, but I'd probably take Cole.

O'Shea is only in the squad because he can cover about 5 positions. Giggs/Scholes are still good players, Park was one of your best performers over the season, so not sure why you've included him. And Berbatov is very good, i really don't think hes had a 'bad' season as many are saying, hes just not playing how he did at Tottenham. Anderson/Nani are still adjusting imo.

And carrick the best in his position? No chance.

Evra/Cole are both about even, but i'd probably pick Evra imo. Essien is a better player than Carrick.

Is there an echo in here :p

O'shea is a good squad player :) nothing more, nothing less ;)

Essien and Carrick dont play in the same position - unless you want to LOOSELY classify them as CM's, but then so where Roy Keane and Fabregas, yet they arent worth compariing either as they are completely different players

and yes Carrick is probably the best in the league in HIS position

Who else plays in HIS position then?

you're right, not many get away with being so anonymous in the middle of the pitch for so long.

Id say that he's a linker, with almost zero attacking flair, and virtually no defensive capability, who also likes to dwell on the ball.

i cant think of many AAA premiership midfielders with ALL of those credentials...at least non that cost 18 million and have played in 2 champs league finals;/

What about a Barry comparison? Lampard, Alonso, these are similar area positional players, unfortunately they all tend to far exceed/outperform Carrick, making the notion that Carrick is the best in the business absolutely nonsensical.

Johnson might be a really good buy for Liverpool. He can only develop under Capello and Benitez.

I really do hope so. Every time I see him play he gives 110% and always wants to win the ball and bullet down that right wing. Arbeloa always seems to sprint 5 yards, stop and pass the ball back to Carragher. A really energetic RB, albeit an expensive one.

:D
In midfield you tend to have two types of players, attacking midfielders and defensive midfielders.

Carrick, as far as being defensive isn't anywhere near the best defensive midfielder in the league, he's not even the best at Manchester United. Essien, Hargreaves, Mash. Attacking wise, he has a long way to go to match Gerrard, Lampard, Fabby, Anderson.

General midfielders, like Barry, Alonso, are much better then Carrick.
If you were to class him as a passer, he's no where near the level of Scholes, or even Murphy ;)

Carrick is a good player, average by Manchester United standards.
He however has a place in the team due to Sir Alex, and he has proven that he knows what he is doing.

I think Johnson will become a much better player at Liverpool, and hopefully will become England's first choice right back.

I'm still coming to the terms of Liverpool paying the best part of 20 million for him, at 18 million, thats about 11/12 million too much.

On a side note, I would not be happy if Glen Johnson was being touted for united, he just isnt top quality.

He's better than any of United's current right backs; as good going forward and better defensively than Rafael, and younger than Neville.

Here's a question for Liverpool fans: if you were in Benitez' shoes, and had the option of either spending £40 million on Villa alone, or spending it on Johnson and a winger (whoever you want that is "available" - Valencia, Silva, whatever), which would you pick?

Better than a fit Wes Brown at the top of his game (Season before Last)? I'm not so sure, hence why Wes was first choice for England ahead of Glen Johnson that season.

Would love Villa but only as a backup to Torres. Our best formation is 4-2-3-1 with Gerrard just behind Torres and I wouldn't change that partnership for any in the world.

Brown's better in defence, Johnson's better in attack.

But the season before last Johnson wasn't half the player he is now, which is why Brown was picked ahead of him for England. We also had a clown managing the side. Brown was considerably better (and less injured!) that season as well. If you compare the Johnson of the end of the 08/09 season to the Brown of the end of the 07/08 season it would be pretty close.

I agree; personally I'm pretty happy with Johnson. Somebody like Silva, who can slot in down the flanks, or fill in the Gerrard role if Stevie's out would suit me perfectly :)
