***The Official iPhone 3.0 Thread***

Been on the GM for about a week and only got MMS working today when I restarted the phone. Didn't get a message from 02 or anything but just sent and received a picture to a friend.

So just to let everyone know, turning things off and on always seem to fix things haha

  • Backup phone in iTunes (e.g. perform a sync)
  • Keep iPhone connected to PC/Mac
  • Hold down Power+Home on the phone until you see a message about the phone being in recovery mode
  • Let go of the buttons now
  • Click "Restore"
  • Done

This will ruin your jailbreak, but I cannot talk of this here.

when i hold down the power and home button i get no recovery mode, i only get the power off option and if i keep holding it it just turns off

which is why I am feeling pretty smug for installing it a week ago and don't need to pant n sweat tonight. mms was working for me at 8:30am today too.
You ain't the only smug one :D It was always going to be the same version anyway.

/me initiates smug mode and points the 3.0 newbies to the url below.

I went straight from 2.2 JB to 3.0 without a glitch. My Calendar + Contacts were already being sync'd via gogol sync anyway so I had no need to back those up.

That's a great link. Incidentally, I put the GM build on a few days ago, MMS failed when I tried it, then I tried again the following morning and it worked. I then had an SMS from O2 telling me I wasn't enabled for MMS and at the end of the day I received an MMS from them with the picture telling me I'm enabled. That was followed the next day by another text telling me I wasn't enabled! For the lulz!

Just finished the download and install. Everything went without a hitch, just enabled find my iPhone with MobileMe works a treat.

Anyone found that their contacts are missing? Everything else seems fine, just the issue with missing contacts!

oh nooo! Yes same here. I did back everything up with itunes but what it's done with it I don't know. I'm having to manually download all my apps again. I'm buggered with my contacts though, don't keep them anywhere else :(

Hmmm...

I'm getting an error:

"iTunes cannot activate your iPhone because the SIM Card is not installed or a SIM PIN is required"

It was working perfectly before the update, albeit in airline mode as I'm abroad so don't use the phone function.

Any ideas what to do?

The iPhone just prompts to connect to iTunes.

anyone else having data issues using 3.0 and a simplicity?? On the o2 website its saying if you dont have an iphone specific tariff you wont get on?

Prior to the update I did a sync and it backed up my phone. All was well before hand, but after the update, I've lost all my contacts. When I manually sync in iTunes, it doesn't restore them. All my apps/notes/text messages/music is on there apart from my contacts!!!!!

Does anyone know if I can get them back? I would have thought that when you sync before updating and it then installs the new firmware, it would restore all data including contacts on the phone as it was before the upgrade.

Not very happy.

Wayhay, MMS! Let's party like it's 2005 :D
rofl :D
I wish someone could shoot someone at Apple for coming up with such a pathetic method of force quitting apps - I can't even memorise the method. Thank god for Process control on SBSettings...

I'm also interested in what settings you should enter for Simplicity. Is it mobile.o2.co.uk or payandgo.o2.co.uk for Simplicity under Cellular Data Network?
