2 i7 builds to choose from.

You could change your ram to the Patriot Viper and change the case to a Silverstone Fortress unless you're dead set on the HAF. The corsair hx750 is also slightly cheaper but not in stock yet.

ram im pretty set with same with the case now, HAF offers excellent space and features. I also :p like the look of it :p, shame its not sprayed black inside:(. Any sound card suggestions?

Thanks for the heads up there, and apologies for the misinformation crang. I saw they added the 4890 to the supported list - I guess it isn't quite up to the task.

No worries mate, the noise of it cant be that bad? Ive had a 7950 Gx2 in the past and that WAS loud!

Asus Xonar DX (PCI-e x1) or D1 (PCI).

Or a creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer

I would not bother with the X-Fi audio - its basically just an Audigy running some X-Fi software (no X-Fi chip).

Does the DX require a power cable to it?

Sorry thats the D2X, think i'll look into the DX, cheers

Ah by the looks of it, it does

why is everyone saying dont use the haf ? I did a build for a friend in one recently and found it excellent , Big , well laid out , great coolìng and decent looks. Overall an excellent case for the money.
Also i think your revised spec is pretty much spot on mate.

cheers mate, im pretty happy with it! Yes imho the HAF ticks all my boxes for a case, however did you place dust filters in the front and back?

Confirmed, the D2X does need extra power - says here. Basically a floppy drive power connector. Its a bit of a hassle but it seems to be a brilliant card.

Atm im trying to make sure the PSU come with that cable, im pretty sure it should, anyone know if it does or doesnt? Cant see why it wouldnt tbh.

The DX2 and the DX need floppy type connectors for extra power

Finally, graphics - this XFX 4890 is a ridiculous price at the moment and you should be able to overclock it up to 950MHz core without too many problems. Use the money saved to get an better cooler like this so it doesn't sound like a 747 taking off.

Does the Accelero fit 4890s? I have 2 of them and wouldn't mind some third party cooling... that's if they still fit in crossfire with them 3rd party heatsink/coolers

I can't find a floppy power connector in any of the reviews of that PSU and a molex to floppy connector does not come with the sound card.

I guess you will need to get a cable like this to power the card.

sorry for double post

They are supposed to (i.e. it lists them as supported on their website), however, siumatfung has had personal experience that they do not cool them well enough. It does make sense as they only just added the support - it was not designed with the more powerful 4890 in mind.

I might just get the X-Fi titanium now or just leave it and use the onboard sound...

I am quite an audio enthusiast... and I have been quite suprised by the Realtek HD provided with the P6T board. Before then I didn't let go of my old creative card until it blew up a few weeks back after 6/7 years.

I'd say stick with onboard and give it a go, sound wont really add "performance" to your system. Unless of course you're hooking it up to some nice sound system via various connectors that an onboard system wont support.

balls, declined for finance. Looks like its gunna be a long time to save :(

Put it this way... it will be worth the wait, and the spec you want now will be much cheaper. Then again when the time comes you'll probably want the best of the time like most people :D for that I can't blame you.
