Manchester Vs London

I've lived in London and will never do so again. I could live in Manchester, although I'd go for a place in the suburbs and commute in.

But really... it all depends where the work is.

Having spent time in both...id have to say London as i much prefer it here...Manchester is ok but couldnt see myself living there although visiting is much a better option for me.

Plus up north its far too grim ;-)

I think most people here are thinking that all of London is just Zone 1. I agree that I would hate to live in Zone 1, as its pretty much a dump and stupidly overpriced

Places like Richmond, Hampstead Heath, even Fulham are very nice and great locations to live, but visually its not a patch on somewhere like Bournemouth or York.

The people who live in London are different than the rest of the country as well, they are a lot more intelligent, and more unique. I find that people who live in towns have the "big fish in small pond" mentality, people worry about what other people think of them, and everyone is in competition with each other materialistic wise.

In London everyone is so arrogant they dont care what other people think of them, and there a lot more unique and not like sheep, which is great in my opinion

Lived in London all my life and couldn't live anywhere else. I would be incredibly bored anywhere else. As for people saying small towns are better, the nature of how London grew means that the suburbs are small towns simply very well connected to the rest of London.

As for per capita violent crime

London is in the upper end of the scale (nothing abnormal compared to the rest of the country). If you look at individual boroughs they vary a lot. Central London stats are skewed because of number of visitors compared to actual residents.

I love living in London - I've lived here for 4 years and loved every bit of it. There is always something to do and I can walk out my front door and be in the thick of it in 10 mins without using public transport. I can also catch a tube direct to Heathrow jump on a plane and be anywhere in Europe within a couple of hours or I can walk down the road to Kings Cross, jump on the Eurostar and be in France in the same amount of time. I'd like to see you do that from Hicksvillebouroughshire central England. Pffft.

London ***!

Been here 7.5 years now, and have loved every minute. Admittedly, I'd never consider living in central London, that's crazy talk, but Zone 2/3 in the nicer areas are great.

But then I am in my 20s, and I'm sure what I want from where I live will change when my life goals do.

EDIT: Also, being a posh southern toff (lol!), I prefer the general accents found in London compared to the more northern cities.

London:) Central has been my home for 4 years now and I love it to bits. Manchester is far too scummy, at least in London you can avoid the unpleasantness.

I've spent time in both and there's a clear winner for me. London all the way. It's a lovely place, lots of people, (although some are rude!), beautiful sights, and ease to get around. On the other hand, Manchester is like a concrete jungle, I hated it there when I was up there. Traffic was awful, people were less friendly than London and there wasn't much to do at all.

I think, if you have any ambition to live in a big City, London is the one to go for, at a young age!

People less friendly in Manchester than London? :/

I hate both so am neutral. That statement is wholly inaccurate.

[edit]Did someone in a new town just call Manchester a concrete jungle? :D

After so many years does your hatred of London not tire? I think we all get the point;) Whether you want to admit it or not, London has some fantastic things about it and variety, you may not enjoy it but then not everyone enjoys walking the dogs in the quiet yorkshire dales:p
