No American iron in there then.

Peugeot using a BMW 1.6? Bet it feels imprisoned in a 207!

Can't say I'll be experiencing any of those engines anytime soon. Glad to see more petrol than diesel though.

The 1.4 VAG TSI unit is awsome, im trying to find a source of a new crate engine for a project actually so if anyone knows of one...

i just remember reading clarkson slagging off the golf 1.4TSI in the sunday times. having said that, he is not allah himself.

The one I drove was pretty good, it pulled well everywhere in the revs and did high 40s mpg. Not going to set the world on fire but I thought it was better than the 170bhp diesel and it was slighlty more economical aswell. I found it on occasion sluggish off the line I later found out that is due to the supercharger disengaging when it idles a bit of revs before pulling away overcomes this. Also a lot of the later ones are pulling 190-200bhp on rolling roads not bad for a 1.4.

That's no shock, there hasn't been a really new engine out from the Big Three for a few years now. Just updates to GM's LS series, the odd tweak to FoMoCo's Modular and Cyclone engines, and absolutely bog-all from the Mopar boys aside from a really nice Hemi Magnum crate motor.

So what - BMW's twin turbo 3 litre is not new either, still wins every year though in its category.

After however many years of VAG tedium isnt it time for a decent car now?

Oooh burn ;)

My definition of decent is probably different to yours so until I can comfortably afford a "decent" car I'll make do with one that fits my needs and budget :)

aww, would've thought Ford/Jag/LR 5.0V8 SC or NA would have made it

edit - came 3rd in >4L category and tied with BMW V10 in performance category

Well I find this odd.

Reviewing the VAG 1.4 I have heard of, and know at least one person whose Turbo has gone pop, twice. The car only has 12k miles on the clock.

To me, that, is, FAIL

I'm failry sure I can say this has won engine of the year based on the following:

Low CC
Low Tax
High BHP
High Torque
Low Emissions
