So, until they implement something to do that, they can't do anything.
BS.I think they have, and i dont advise anybody to do it. A friend of mine set his up today using the "config file" method. He had a call from O2 this afternoon to advise him he has been caught tethering without the add-on. He argued the toss about he already has unlimited data, e.t.c. but simply put they said stop it or else you will be charged for the data used. Word of warning.
Well, I spent last night sniffing a normal data stream, and there was nothing in there, in the startup, handshake or the shutdown that could indicate to the peer that "I am tethered to something". I am of no doubt that O2 are going to scare people otherwise, and tell their staff to suggest to customers that they can detect tethered connections, but that doesn't make it true
have you used the phones 3g capabilities on your phone before?
Check in settings > general > network
Enable 3G - Yes
Data Roaming - Off
I only ever see a circle or an E in the top left hand corner .... Neva seen it say 3G
Data Roaming should be on when in the UK. With it off however you shouldn't have any data access other than through WIFI when it sounds like you do have data access.

If you have an iPhone 3G and have "neva seen is say 3G", then you've never been in a 3G signal areaI only ever see a circle or an E in the top left hand corner .... Neva seen it say 3G

Have you tried going to Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings? I'd give that a shot.Had the phone for a good 6 months now and im out and about all the time infactwas sitting in a pub last night and my mates displayed the 3G icon but mine did not hence the reason for this question ....
It doesn't matter if data roaming is on or off when you are in the UK because you won't be roaming unless. That setting just prevents data usage when you are not on your 'home' network. I have it set to off because it's a safer option if I forget to turn it off when abroad.
That is very weird.... perhaps ask your network?Had the phone for a good 6 months now and im out and about all the time infactwas sitting in a pub last night and my mates displayed the 3G icon but mine did not hence the reason for this question ....
