**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

It will all end in tears

It will do.

They are signing all these attacking players, its not going to do their defence any good :p

They should have started from the back spending €80+ on a fair few decent players.

Any news of player going out of Real Madrid? Wouldn't mind seeing van der Vaart and Huntelaar in the Premiership.

ROFL. According to SSN he won't be joining Liverpool because of the rivalry but hasn't ruled out City...

Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man's world

It's funny in a way because I agree, with Liverpool it's a hatred and a rivalry.

With City it's pity and contempt, they don't challenge us it's more of an annoying little Brother syndrome.

What is it 34 years now without a trophy?

At least Liverpool try nowadays.

accepted mega bucks off city, trying to make himself look a little better in front of the fans by rejecting liverpool. is my initial reaction

Seems that's the initial reaction of most United supports

I on the other hand see it as nothing more than him just ruling out 1 of his supposed 4 options. I can still very much see him coming out at the end of all of this saying he never wanted to leave UTD (after agreeing to stay of course)

well, 1: i didn't think he was worth the additional 25million (though this season's market skews that admittedly). 2: He came out with things in the press at the business end of last season that could potentially have served to destabilise us, whether it was him or Kia there was an attempt to get the fans onside and pressure ferguson and the board. it was always going to lose but i lost a lot of respect for him.

According to recent transfer rumours Real Madrid are still interested in both Ribery and Villa, though Perez's comments today in the Villa article suggest they can't afford another £60-70 million on one player. Where on earth are they getting all the money from?!

I agree with everyone else here though, I think it will all end in tears. They ought to sort out their defence first. The reason they lost to Barca last season was because their defence was poor, not simply that they weren't scoring enough goals. In my opinion, they have one of the best goalkeepers in the world in Casillas, a fantastic right back in Sergio Ramos, but Cannavaro is ageing and looked shaky last year, Pepe was sometimes very good and sometimes very bad, and I really think they need a new left back. Plus neither of the Diarra's are good enough in the defensive midfield position.

so did they lose those merchandising profits after they sold him? see according to madrid their merchandising profits doubled when they signed figo, doubled again when they signed zidane and tripled when they signed beckham. oddly though, no other club chooses to follow madrid's business model. weird that, it's almost like they are talking out of their arses.

you will see an increase in revenue by bringing in a big name but they overstate it, perhaps as a cover as to the extremely favourable rates they get from spanish institutions.

Ramos is very short of being a fantastic right back that's for sure

Oh and Cannavaro has already left Madrid and gone back to Juve

The talk I hear at the moment is of the Dutch contingent going out of RM. In all honesty I think RM have been the real exception this transfer window. The more high profile players Madrid signs, the bigger potential for it all to go wrong. Regardless of if they gel together, they are obliged to play them in order to recoup the fees

Most players who aren't involved in The Confederations Cup or the Under 21 Championship will be on Holiday. I really don't expect the market to start heating up till the end of next week at the earliest

Well, fantastic might be a bit of an exaggeration but he can't be that bad if he is in the Spain starting XI. I think he appeared worse than he is last year because Real were poor at the back generally. He did have a bad season though.

And thanks for the update on Cannavaro, didn't realise he had left, have they got a replacement lined up?

edit: the problem Real have is that they have to win big the next few seasons to justify spending so much money. The fans aren't going to be happy if they don't win anything, even if the transfer fees and wages are easily recouped by shirt sales etc, which I'm sure they will be. If they don't at least beat Barca to the title next season (which won't be easy by any means), I think there could be a major backlash against Perez.
