Warnings for 2012

A small boat would probably fare much better than a larger one on such a huge swell. It'd simply "ride" the wave.

I don't think it's a good idea though.:)

he'd have to get pretty far out to sea really quickly though to catch the wave as a swell not a mound of foaming water that a boat would just sink through.

I pointed this out to him, but I think he aims to sail out into the middle of the Atlantic Ocean so that he only faces the crest of the wave, and not when it actually crashes on the shore (where he will be on its trough). I've heard of people surviving tsunamis far out at sea in this way, but I think this one might be a little bit too big :D. In addition, the boat is too small (as you say) and crap.

It's an intriguing idea and I wish him well but I hope (and suspect) he'll never have cause to try this theory.

Maybe, it depends on the waves, the stage of their lifecycle (swell or breaking etc) and probably on the shape of the boat too. Perhaps he will be the one laughing in the end though. :)

I've just watched Penn & Teller's Bull**** and this week it was all about the Mayan's 2012 world ending theory.

In typical P&T fashion it was lol :p

I especially liked this segment:

It's gonna be chaos...

possible dirty bomb at the olympics?

its also quite funny the people that are adament nothing will happen, crystal balls working overtime :p

How the hell does our solar system align with the center of the galaxy, that would be one points to another that is a constant.

It would have made more sense (crazy sense) if you said planets and other systems align to the center of our galaxy, but you didn't.

i think he meant to say it aligns with the centre of the Milky Way ?

We are always aligned with the centre of the Milky Way. With two points you can always draw a line between them. It makes no sense whatsoever. You really need three things to be aligned with anything.

You could however say that history is on their side, there have been many predictions of the apocalypse throughout the decades/centuries/millenia and we still seem to be here which rather suggests that most people predicting the end of the World don't know diddly. There is of course that possibility that at some point they'll get it right, eventually it almost certainly has to happen but I've got no intention of living my life worrying about it, particularly if there is almost nothing I can do about it.

I've been told by someone in the know that the electricity and power will be cut for 6 days on dec 21 2012

LMAO! Those mushrooms really are something aren't they!

there will be possible wide scale pandomonium when our solar system aligns with the center of galaxy for the first time in 10,000s of years. Though it won't be the end of the world, just some big changes.

I believe this happened 3 million years ago and wont happen again for another 30 million...

They're refering to the galactic plane. ie: If you imagine the galaxy as a fried egg, the solar system's orbit goes up and down slightly over millions of years in relation to the plane of the galaxy. So sometimes we are above the plane, sometimes below, and sometimes on the plane (as we pass through it)...

The suggestion is large amounts of emmissions are ejected along the plane, and as we go through it the Earth (& the Sun) get hit/affected by it...

if that were true then we would have been fried centuries ago, as the plane is a few light years high. Some people have no real concept of basic astrophysics i swear

Oh my goodness, you weren't joking. It's actually on the Daily Mail website.

We're doomed :/
