Windows 7 hits RC stage Build 7100

OK seems to be a compatibility issue. I can select run in vista SP2 compatibility mode in the properties for 185 drivers but this is greyed out with the 186 drivers??

Don't worry your alarm will go off in a minute and you will wake up. :D Using two versions of the same model of car should give you the same test results ergo Vista SP2 v W7
SP2 is out !? Didn't know, rarely use Vista now, so caught up in W7 i hadnt noticed :p I have no interest in Vista anymore - explorer is a mess, i hate it!

I've just been trying to sync my Satnav to W7 but am having no luck. I just found this blog about Device Stage - the replacement for ActiveSync on W7. Ive got version 7201 but i can't find it, is available yet?

EDIT: I see it, doesnt work for my satnav though ..... oh god, back to Vista then i guess :(

If you are installing the WIN 7 X64 nvidia drivers, you don't need to run them in compatibility mode. You are installing Win 7 drivers onto a Win 7 OS (Or am I missing something? :))

Anyone using Windows 7 with the Xonar DX?

I installed the drivers i used for my Vista 64 bit install onto an install of Server 2008 R2 (Windows 7 server), and have since experienced a single BSOD with the error message DRIVER_IRQ_NOT_LESS_THAN_EQUAL... Which suggests a driver problem to me! I guess it could be video drivers/ethernet drivers or whatever (or indeed opera 10 Beta - lots of Beta/RCs here!), but since it only happened after the sound driver install, i cant help but think it could be this. If anyone is using the Xonar DX, have you managed to find a stable driver?

Thanks

I have downloaded the release of 7100 (or whatever MS have on their site) and installed that, but I am kind of considering upgrading to the latest release.

Is it worth it? I have been trying to find the difference but so far have failed :(

Probably been asked a million times, but if I wanted to go from say version 7100 to say 7260 (or whatever it is) do I need to reinstall the entire OS by doing the ye old partition wipe? The reason I ask I am running vista on a separate drive. Is it possible to just pop in the windows 7 disk and have it upgrade from one version to another (that is windows 7 version 7100 to the latest version).

I obviously don't want to touch my Vista 64 install and have that updated or anything :p

Odd question but how do you disable Aero and just use a non-3D accelerated theme? I want to see if it makes any difference to netbook battery life.

[edit] Never mind found it! :D

Cheers,

Su

Yes Windows 7 RC coming in July/August before it release in October and then MS start to create new Windows 8 that may come out from 2011. I may stay in Vista Sp2 and wait for Windows 8 instead of W7... Im no in hurry as you know clock run so fast in 2-4 years time.

check out the new patch on the Asus download site for that card, it doesn't list it as a fix, but I read on the Asus forums that the patch fixes W7 issues.

Thanks Bledd (plus good timing!). There's actually a slightly newer driver version available as well, so i'll give that a try too (didnt realise my version was so old!). Had another BSOD this morning just after turning the thing on... I havent actively pursued a fix, but hopefully this will work!

I'm sorry but I completely disagree with you. To me, Windows 7 offers very little over Windows Vista Service Pack 2, it's pretty much the exact operating system in my opinion.

Except for the fact that it runs rings around Vista in terms of speed/responsiveness - sure it doesn't exactly add much in the way of exciting new features but we knew that already.

I find your response rather rude and your debating skills questionable. You will really succeed in life with that attitude - not! :(

Debating skills? you're talking complete rubbish compared to the feedback most of us are getting through W7.

And btw that was quite the way to sum up a person from a single forum post which wasn't rude just factual, if you're results relative to the rest of us make you feel marginalised then perhaps you need to work on your own skillset instead of trying to belittle others.

To be honest I do not see that in my dual boot config. I find Vista slightly faster at running stuff but slower at boot. This is due to my Vista SP2 install being nearly two years young and I have loads of programs run with startup, which are my choice.

I agree with W7 not really offering much over Vista and nothing to get over excited about. The only slightly useful bit I have found is USB usage on Virtual PC, even thats not "properly" done.

On 3 different machines and including a netbook W7 is noticably snappier on the desktop versus Vista SP2 for me, most if not all applications + windows explorer especially.

Both desktop machines have recent hardware and i guess the netbook isn't too shabby either, W7 just feels how Vista should have been from the start versus XP ...ie more eye candy + faster instead of how Vista is in reality for most with more eye candy and the same or slower performance versus XP.

Build 7232 is definitely the best of the bunch also, quite noticable over 7100 RC for me at least.

Still using 7100 here from MS. I am tempted to get an updated version, but I might wait and see if a more updated release first.

In other words I am feeling lazy and can't be bothered to reinstall all my stuff for the 3rd time (had to install W7 twice now because of partition issues :().
