What is the deal with men wearing long shorts nowadays?

i've only started wearing shorts recently due to self conciousness and generally not having the opportunity to, and now my legs are so pale, they reflect the sun, and so for an upcoming holiday i've purchased a few pairs of knee legnth shorts, nice and airy, makes quite a difference :) just need my silver legs to get some colour

That's another thing I've never understood, bashing men like Ronaldo or Beckham who are undeniably heterosexual, because they choose to dress how they want and not conform to the narrow accepted view that the rest of the sheep deem acceptable

Or maybe most people just don't like how they dress and choose not to, because quite frankly nobody can pull this off:

Because the manly men of this forum can't understand that some women like that look. If women don't like it as they think, then the only other option is that they're gay :)

Not condoning wearing short shorts as I think they look silly and remind me of old school gym teachers. :p

Not my personal cup of tea BUT I have no problem with him or anyone else dressing like that or indeed however they like. I think kudos to him for having the balls to please himself and not dress like everyone else for fear of not fitting in - because that's what most people undoubtedly do.

or, maybe i just think it looks ridiculous :)

this is the reason that all of us "sheep" don't wear short shorts.

It does make me smile to think of all the men there must be who have half their legs tanned and the entire upper half white :) How silly.

Is it really going to look any sillier then having tanned legs and then a white stripe across your groin? Few people are going to goto the effort of getting an all over tan so they're going to end up with a white stripe somewhere.

Must say at the moment I'm taking it to extremes, I have very tanned face, hands and feet but white everywhere else. Comes from having to spend so much time stood in the sea that you need to wear a wetsuit even when the sun is out!

I have lot's of long shorts. Why? Because i like them.

Wear what YOU want and leave others to wear what they want without complaining. Jeez, is it really that difficult?

I think there is a narrowly accepted way that men are 'allowed' to dress, and to deviate outside those boundaries renders you open to ridicule like Ronaldo. Whereas women can wear absolutely anything they like and nobody bats an eyelid.

If society worked like that, there wouldn't be a problem but it doesn't, does it :)

society builds social norms for a reason though.

Well I personally don't give a damn what people are wearing, as long as I'm happy with what I am wearing. I don't see how what someone else is wearing, can be a problem to anyone but themselves?

I think a proper comparison would be if someone spent the entire summer wearing a T-shirt which came halfway down their upper body, and only the exposed part was tanned.

Hang on, this sounds like you're criticising people for saying 'short shorts look feminine and men who wear them are gay', but then go on to suppose that men who wear a crop top (similar to the majority of women who go out in the sun will wear) would look silly. What makes one ok and the other not?

If you don't conform in life, whether it be what you wear or anything else, you lay yourself open to ridicule or worse - indeed people have even been attacked for how they look haven't they (goths for example).
