What is the deal with men wearing long shorts nowadays?

Hang on, this sounds like you're criticising people for saying 'short shorts look feminine and men who wear them are gay', but then go on to suppose that men who wear a crop top (similar to the majority of women who go out in the sun will wear) would look silly. What makes one ok and the other not?

Anything is okay with me, I was using that as an example to make a point.

I think there is a narrowly accepted way that men are 'allowed' to dress, and to deviate outside those boundaries renders you open to ridicule like Ronaldo. Whereas women can wear absolutely anything they like and nobody bats an eyelid.

I guess you've never seen the pages in those cheap womens mags with whole double page spreads solely used for ripping into womens clothing choices at award shows and stuff.

Fair enough, just the way it sounded!

Another + point for long shorts is that you're able to wear a climbing harness with them, do the same with short shorts and you'll soon find they turn into a thong.

Don't tend to buy 'em :p

I think you know what my comment meant and it wasn't that women could wear LITERALLY anything. But a woman could wear short, or long shorts and nobody would find it odd.

Sure, I don't doubt they have various practical applications which makes them more suitable for some tasks than short shorts. But I think as a rule, shorts were originally designed to expose as much skin as possible while remaining decent obviously. Now they just expose a bit of your lower leg, and everyone finds that normal - I just find it odd.

why not wear speedos or a borat style man-kini? ;):D

Well I can't really speak for anyone else, but I think guys in short shorts just look a bit silly + I find it's rarely so hot that I'd want to wear anything shorter then knee length.

Out of interest I did try looking into the origin of shorts etc, the only reference I saw of note was that the long style shorts were supposedly invented by the British troops serving in Bermuda!

It does make me smile to think of all the men there must be who have half their legs tanned and the entire upper half white :) How silly.

Any more silly than having the untanned part starting a few inches higher?

I wear longer shorts because im rather wide, longer shorts look much better on me than short.

Long shorts are best IMO

I'd never wear short shorts unless there was a benefit of doing so. To say that they're meant to be really short to be cooler (as in temperature) is a bit ridiculous imo. Knee length shorts are still one hell of a lot cooler than jeans and, in a place like England where the temperature can go from hot to cold in a matter of minutes having longer shorts means you're warmer if the weather suddently changes. They have more pockets, too, which is helpful

...although you like tight pink shirts and short shorts so maybe you don't think so...

But then again, if you're walking around in pink shirts and short shorts I guess a handbag wouldn't seem too out of place on you anyway :P

Also long shorts are more comfortable :D

why arent you advocating speedo's then?

Who would have thought it, DD campaigning to have men wear shorter shorts!

I suspected he was turning

:p

The irony of this whole thread is rather amusing. :)
