What is the deal with men wearing long shorts nowadays?

Not my personal cup of tea BUT I have no problem with him or anyone else dressing like that or indeed however they like. I think kudos to him for having the balls to please himself and not dress like everyone else for fear of not fitting in - because that's what most people undoubtedly do.

is this supposed to be as entirely dense as it sounds or are you trying to be funny?

You have no problem with how Ronaldo dress's, not your cup of tea but kudos for him having the balls to dress how he wants. yet you started a thread to ridicule people who wear long shorts.

ultra short shorts are ridiculous, not least because they are uncomfy if you have balls larger than those of a 12yr old, also because it was generally the thing people wore in the 80's and we're slightly past that(though portugal isn't).

Ronaldo can dress how he likes, I don't care, I also won't have a go at him personally for dressing how he feels comfy, but you specifically started a thread to have a go at people who wear long shorts. Baggy long shorts are cooler, more comftable, more modest, smarter and generally much nicer than short shorts.

Thats not to add in the fact that most longer shorts are linen's, cargo style made out of breathable and comftable materials for the hot weather, while short shorts are mostly made of synthetic, un breathable, sweaty and are mostly awful for hot weather.

You'll also find the two area's on the body that get cooled the most effectively in the body are the ankles and wrists and your blood vessels are closest to the surface and cool the most from air/water passing over them, any shorts that don't cover the ankles will be significantly cooler than trousers that do, and as long as your shorts aren't made of lycra you'll get airflow up the legs anyway.

i've only started wearing shorts recently due to self conciousness and generally not having the opportunity to, and now my legs are so pale, they reflect the sun, and so for an upcoming holiday i've purchased a few pairs of knee legnth shorts, nice and airy, makes quite a difference :) just need my silver legs to get some colour

This is one of the reasons why I have knee length shorts. I hate my legs, but also hate wearing trousers all the time.

Personally I think just above the knee (about 2-3 inches maybe) is about as short as you should go, else they head towards tackle strangling/exposing lengths (when sat down for example, I don't mean everyone will dangle out the bottom of the shorts :p).

I'm not a fan of exposing myself or my underwear, so my junk stays safely hidden in my boardies. :p

You need to work on making your posts more succinct :)

I look great in my shorts -

I should act my age though.

Sure, I don't doubt they have various practical applications which makes them more suitable for some tasks than short shorts. But I think as a rule, shorts were originally designed to expose as much skin as possible while remaining decent obviously. Now they just expose a bit of your lower leg, and everyone finds that normal - I just find it odd.

some people like the look of them and thats enough reason to buy them. its a simple case of form over function.

im not a huge fan of any kind of shorts but you must have a pretty dull wardrobe if you buy everything based on that way of thinking

I wear long shorts on days when I go cycling as they are perfect for it but don't usually wear them as everyday clothes. On hot sunny days like today I wear normal length shorts.

For swimming and diving at the pool I wear normal length shorts, for walking , cycling or going anywhere I wear knee length

I really think dirtydog needs to post a picture of himself in his shorts.

To me people don't generally wear shorts for the sun tan but because they're cooler clothes for the summer months, also it's the fashion yes. You might deny you follow 'fashion' but you're buying from stores whose stock is driven by it.

As for the sun tan thing, it's exactly the same as wearing a tshirt rather than a vest, or short shorts rather than trunks. Fashion, style, whatever, prevails. Here in the sun everyone wears (longer) shorts day to day but trunks on the beach. Oh yeah, 25 degrees on Maspalomas today by the way.

Gotta say though. Talking about fashion sense on a online computer forum probably isn't the best idea.

Wouldn't like to imagine how many people here have bench/lonsdale/diadora/umbro/donnay/stripey jumpers in their wardrobe
