**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

well if it comes to a choice between trusting someone who has won 3 scottish league titles, 4 scottish cups, 2 Uefa cup winners cup, 11 premier leagues, 5 Fa cups, 2 Champions Leagues and A club world cup 9 Fa Premier League Manager of the year awards coupled with numerous other individual and club honours.

Or someone who complains a lot on an internet forum, then it's a real difficult choice I give you that.

if your basing your entire argument on past achievements, then you fail. i questioned some of the big name players, and some of the little ones he's persisted with who ultimately detratced from us winning the titles that we did, and definately helped in terms of losing us the ones we did not...

show me a manager who has been able to buy 4-5 30million £ players consistently over the past few seasons, and ill show u a sucessful manager...

just because he has been able to buy his way out of trouble does not necessarily mean that we should trust every new purchase he is about to make.

but then u just defended the man and stated nothing about Benzema...so...whether you disagree with me or just want to try and ridicule me whilst towing the ManuPartyLine thats fine...but i dont see the benefit in the summer transfer discussion thread...?

This is the second year running where they've been looking rid of him.

Although their president has said that he wants to keep him...last year they were looking to get rid of people like him, Deco, Ron etc to get rid of that clique and to bring a stronger work ethic to the team. Once those two left, Eto'o really knuckled down and had a fantastic season. To be honest it sounds more like people are chasing him this year, rather than Barca actively looking to offload him as they were last year.

Just says we've agreed a deal with Portsmouth. Doesn't say that the deal has been completed yet.

Hope it gets done soon though.

Well kind of. We've agreed terms with both Pompey and Johnson, i guess all that needs to happen is a medical now (some say that's been done also though).

I know, was just making the point that it's still not impossible for someone to come in and scupper our deal (looking at you, Chelsea!). The way our finances are going I won't believe it until I see him unveiled at a press conference, wearing a red (Liverpool, not Man Utd!) shirt.

Should we have got Hargreaves and Torres instead of Nani and Anderson (ok Nani isnt much to consider fair enough, but potential of Anderson is worthy of the investment imo)

I don't understand the Hargreaves thing, he was signed, but Torres is worth Nani, Anderson (potential or not, I personally thing he's poo) and a crocked Hargreaves three times over.

Just imagine if manyoo had Torres and not Berbatov.

All I was saying is that given his performance in the admittedly limited games between 07 - 08, I personally dont believe Utd would have beaten Chelsea without him, and for that alone it was worth spending the £18m imo

Utd bought Berba a year after Torres moved, so that wouldnt have been possible

Whether Torres would have won us the CL this year - is highly debatable only because it was the midfield that was so **** and virtually no service in the last 1/3rd after the first 10 minutes... so Utd would have won the same titles more easily......hmmmm big wow

Any 1/2 decent fit player (let alone a world class player) is worth it over any player missing for a season, not really much to argue about there, Hargreaves has fortunately recently stated he should be fully fit by October , and as good as new - hopefully thats the case come 4 months time, and Utd will be revitalised in midfield

Torres was never coming to MU, bid or not.

He was always going to Liverpool.

Certainly how it appeared to me too after he messed Utd around for two years in a row

Messed Utd around because he didn't want to join you? :D

maybe - but for a couple of years before he joined you there where reported statements about him wearing Utd shirts to bed and to media conferences etc etc etc (admittedly rehashed later so that it was Liverpool red - I never saw any photographic proof either way)

either way without a doubt Liverpool got a stonking deal for £21m or whatever you paid, whether he has a decent enough team around him is a completely different question however :D

All we know is his armband proved he was a red :p

As for messing you around; Fergie admitted himself that on several occasions you bid for him and he rejected the move.

For 2 seasons it was us and AC in the hunt for him with confirmed bids. Atletico at the time were still short of cash and they were ready to sell. His intention was always to join Liverpool if he moved abroad, I don't think he ever got to a stage of turning us down as he would never join us in the first place.

Hargreaves, Anderson and Nani all play in different positions to Torres so it's a bit of a non argument you got going on there Gilly.

What if we got Hirst instead of Cantona, or Shearer instead of RvN, well the rest as they say is History ;)

Surely if you and Atletico were willing to do the deal and the only reason why it didn't happen was because Torres only wanted to join us, it means he rejected you?

Not that it matters; he also rejected Chelsea the year before joining us, Arsenal when he was much younger and both Inter and City, the year he joined us.
