Ok so I just called o2 to see what deal they could do on a new contract. They told me I couldn't keep my £10 discount (from £30 to £20) as they "didn't do that anymore!" ... ok I say, I can't afford to pay anymore than £20 so I will need to cancel, they backtrack and put me onto someone who "may" be able to do a deal. The second person pointed out that I only use about 25% of my allocated minutes per month.. which I am aware of, I like to have a buffer where I know I won't go over my limit so I don't get any extra charges.

You would think they would see me as a good customer and offer a decent deal? No lol. They still want to charge me more than what I currently pay or to go on a simplicity / pay and go sim. I requested to cancel the contract which ends in just under a month. PAC code en route then!

I have decided to go with Tesco Pay n Go. They are doing a deal where you pay £15 and get £45 worth of credit, which rolls over. This is ideal for me as some months I hardly use my phone at all (one of the reasons I refuse to go on a simplicity sim).

/rant over :p

I need a phone to replace my current wrecked viewty. I never use video and hardly ever use picture features. I basically use my phone for calling and texting (I would have used email and web if I had got a blackberry but I can do without!).

Does anyone have any ideas on a really cheap phone that is well built and has a good battery life?

Hope I didn't bore you all :D

Thats odd... i got a new nokia 5800, 600mins and 1k texts plus unlimited internet for £20 inc vat a month. ( 18month contract ). I was on a £35 a month contract before.

Maybe I phoned them on a day when they had hit all their targets..? Although maybe it's because they can't budge as much on the blackberry deals

I recently got the same tariff and price with an E71.

/fail

1- Call retentions direct.
- Have another awesome deal on hand ready to shoot down their rubbish with.
- Use up your minutes in the last few months then just blag your usage has picked up because of X, Y, Z.
- Haggle harder and be polite but alpha.
- If they don't budge then hang up (making loud swirling noise and say 'you're breaking up').
- Call back another day.
- Return to 1.

/profit.

Are you in the last month of your contract? Because they wont usually deal match with another (pull a random deal from your head) great deal until then.

yep i am inside the last month of my contract. i am usually pretty good at getting a deal for mobile and broadband packages but this time it just didnt happen! i got my pac code via sms the other day so they must mean business

I've just dumped them and gone across to Orange, I'll be honest, mainly for the poor choice of phones on offer, and secondly, for large parts of the run I do everyday, I cant get a bloody signal.
When I rang them up and told them I wanted to cancel (I was on a £35 P/M 600 minutes, long weekends (still) and unlimited texts and web) they were completely nonplussed and offered no deals at all.

Man, that contract would be perfect for me. Just what i'm looking for.

Nokia 5800
600 mins
1000 Texts
Internet
18 month contract
£20 a month

Are you a new customer? Is there anyway that i'd be able to get that contract? :p

I was an existing customer but i had to haggle somewhat for the deal.

I found a deal on carphone whorehouse ( with o2 ) and quoted that, i told them it was 18months when in fact it was a 24month deal but they swollowed it :p

latest offer is the £35 a month tarrif for £30 and the BB curve for free...

at least they ain't taking the biscuit now! ill phone up in a few days and see if they will better it again. it seems the more times you phone the cheaper it gets
