Closing all bank accounts.

Why bother then? It's not a cost to you to have one and makes paying for things much easier and more flexible.

because i've had problems with companies debiting my accounts, its too tied up to certain websites, just a month ago i updated my details and a company went and robbed £50 before even asking permission, nothing i could do about it.

and before you ask, no it wasnt outstanding payment.

If you get paid cash in hand your employer must state this to the Inland Revenue or you will get the banhammer.

setup a new account, keep your money in there, and only use the others to buy from. that would solve your problem.

So open a different account and close that one? :p

Hmmm, i think that will be the plan, but thing is i really don't need an account right now, but if you guys think it'll make things awkward credit wise, and tax ill open a new one...

Recommend me a bank? :P

Hi there,

Urm, companies cannot just "rob £50 before even asking permission"?

they did... trust me i went on a website i use, i'd paid for my web hosting, and it said my card details had expired so i thought "right ok, update" so i updated, they instantly debited my account, without permission! they called it "Auto Renewal" BS!

TBH any of the highstreet free accounts will be the same really. Ive never had any issues with natwest, good online banking too.

why is that you dont need one a good idea to get rid of your account?

you dont need 99% of everything in your life, does not mean it would be a good idea to move to a small island in the pacific

afaik, removing the DD mandate from your account will stop this

Halifax, online banking they have owns barclays, abbey, HSBC and natwest

Virgin has good online layout too! abbey has the absolute worst, including their credit card online service

i did remove it the day before they was scheduled to take it.. but they still took it... i know this sounds bizarre.. but i was not a happy bunny.

I know a lot of people in here are probably thinking "Why on earth?!" and a lot of you probably couldnt live without a bank account! but currently i could easily live without it for a while anyway.
