Leon Cupra R any other alternatives?

I'd go with the Octavia, brilliant car, never go wrong on you and with a £500 Jabba remap you'll outrun any hothatch, they produce so much torque it's not even funny

It was going so well until then....

As with any car there is the possibility that things may go wrong (the rear window for example jammed on my old Octy vRS - fixed under warranty but still its something that can go wrong).

How are we defining outrunning a hot hatch? In a straight line even a remapped vRS will struggle to pull more than a couple car lengths on a Megane R26 / 225 Cup, Trophy. Point to point (B road blast) a Megane R26 will still be quicker (the vRS understeers when pushed hard, rolls too much (in comparison to the Megane) and won't be able to get the power down out of the corners as quickly (again in comparison to the LSD equipped Megane). The vRS is good just not as good as some of the competition in some areas.

Of course everything is relative, an octy vRS is still an excellent car (I used to own one so this is more than just a review based opinion) but it really does depend what the op wants. The Meganes for example are better drivers cars (R26 especially) yet lack the practicality of the vRS so its swings and roundabouts.

Not being a fanboy at all - I just think the Octy vRS is a lot of car for the money/insurance/etc

There is something wrong with being a fanboy - you don't hear a balanced opinion of a car.

When he's saying "nothing ever goes wrong on them", "they'll outrun every other hot hatch" and that it is "faultless" he just sounds like a blinkered fanboy, who people should dismiss in preference to someone who gives a balanced opinion, like above.

The Octy vRS is undoubtedly a fantastic all rounder and gives a lot of car for the money, but the way rhyz was going on about it - he makes it sound like a Veyron!

I'd take one over the Veyron.....actually....I did :)

Who was that with? (hoping this may help this person as well as myself :p) I just had a quote of £1020 for a new shape CTR and I'm 22 with 2 years NCB.

I was with Bell the first year with my LCR, then got a quote for the 787 by Elephant. Which is the same company as Bell so they matched it. Check out Confused.com (which is where I got it) or give them a ring!

Not a fanboy at all, I sold the vRS for an M3 which was slower and far more expensive to run, I just preferred it.

However, that said, with a few minor mods my vRS was very quick, I have a video of it somewhere so i'll dig it up when home from work. Around a track with some coilovers they're a very well balanced car but yes, no LSD means it will struggle out of corners as I found out at Donington a while back. They're still a great car, new or old, i'd have another one tomorrow if I was in the market for a £7k car.
