New storage drive needed, reconfigure existing drives for raid 0?

I currently have a couple of 250gb samsung drives no raid, but each split into a couple of partitions. I am in need of some more storage so am considering getting a couple of 1TB Samsung F2EGs or F1s. One to mount internally and one to put in an external caddy I already have.

Is it worth reconfiguring the 2 existing 250gb drives into raid 0 for the OS installation, applications etc? Would there be a noticable performance increase?

I too have been wondering if this would be an idea as I've ordered a pair of Seagate 1.5tb drives so I'll have 2 500gb drives spare. Was wondering if I should wack them into a RAID 0 config but the idea of doing a re-install puts me off this.

Sorry if this is trampling on your thread OP but I'd like to know if I create a RAID 0 pack could I just image across my current single disk OS install onto the RAID 0 pack without having to do a re-install. Run my current drives in AHCI mode if that makes a diff.

There would be a noticeable increase in performance and as you’re taking the precaution in having multiple backup drives you’re also eliminating the one risk involved with RAID 0.

With your backup and setup I, personally, would - it's easy to set up and you will notice a satisfying increase in performance/speed with the OS and Apps.

Yes you can.

Yes you can.

Great news. My new drives should be here on Monday, I'm planning on soak testing them for a day or 2, then I'll image 2 of 500gb drives onto the new drives. Gonna leave the 500gb drives untouched as backups for at least a week or 2 before RAIDing them up.
