OCZ Vertex (non-turbo drives) get 230mb/s read and 155mb/s write so a nice improvement:)

aye, but I'm more interested in the rumoured new Intels, with the rumoured process shrink.. that may bring performance/capacity to the masses. And if Intel can do it, the other, cheaper, manufacturers can't be that far behind..

intel have no competition in the highend cpu market and charge ripoff prices, they do the same with their ssd's and only lower prices when competition gets close in performance. their new ssd's will be crazy prices im sure and will charge loads for them im sure. intel != cheap

Is anyone actually aware that SATA II (which these drives use) ..

CAN'T go beyond 300MB/s, and even that is theoretical. Tom's Hardware showed this:

Even showing off SATA 2 at its max they could only get 288 MB/s.

These drives are approching their limit hence the reason OCZ released the PCI-E versions. I think '278 MB/s' is a bit hopeful and I bet is extremely difficult to actually get.

Please just stop milking the money and bring out SATA III and USB 3.0, both of which are ready to ship whenever they want. But they would rather milk more money. SATA III has a limit of 600MB/s, now this would allow us to have RAID 0 speeds on a single drive, plus the potential to RAID these as well. Then again we also need SATA III SSD's...

Everything is moving FAR too slow imo.

NVIDIA is going to delay their cards until the end of the century at this rate lol.

USB 3.0 is well in the ready but is for some stupid reason being help back.

Intel's new (i3 + i5) CPU's are just a pointless downgrade to reak yet MORE money. i3, i5's are just downgrades of the i7 imo.

And AMD won't get off their backsides to make some decent equipment in terms of CPUs.

Sound has taking a stand still, what the hell happened to X-Fi 2?

3D and touch screen is taking FAR too long to bring out on mainstream and it cost FAR too much.

Sorry for the rant but im sick of companies taking forever to do ANYTHING and then after they make us wait for ages they think they have the right to charge us ludicrously and try to kid us its '3rd generation, brand new' ... its already been out for about 3 years you idiots, you just took so flipping long to release it! lol

What? You realise RAID0ing the drives would use the max bandwidth of each SATA port for each drive, not restrict the total bandwidth to that of one SATA port?

It's the recession, there's not really a market for them atm.. although they should really be getting a move on IMO

If you think that a two disk RAID0 array is limited by the bandwidth of 1 SATA port, you don't understand how RAID works at all.

Erm sorry this one caught my eye? What the hell lol since when did I mention Core2Quad....

I'm talking about i5 and i3 vs. i7... what about having an i8 for example something faster not slower. Sorry If I didn't make the 'new' part clear enough lol, I don't view i7 as being new imo, sorry for the misunderstanding but no I was talking about going from i7 > i5 > i3. Why be so hostile? lol

And who said USB 3.0 requires a new form factor of course it doesn't, you just replace the existing USB 2.0 ports with USB 3.0 ports and wallah, USB 3.0 as said above is also backwards compatible so no trouble there either.

And at miniyazz, I meant for Intel about i5 and i3, they are slowing down in terms of technology advancement. As for AMD I can't believe anyone would disagree that AMD are behind when it comes to the advancement in CPU's.

I am sorry I didn't understand RAID worked like that I admit my mistake.

However I still hold my point we need SATA 3 as these drives are limited to the speed of SATA 2.

vortx why do you think youre entitled to cheaper hardware and have it right now? Companies are out there to make money. Shock horror. Nobody's forcing you to shell out for the hardware.

I'm not after cheaper hardware, I don't care if I have to pay more for USB 3.0 and SATA 3, I'm just fed up with them taking so long to release it. I feel I'm being cheated by buying a SATA II SSD as I know in a few months time (hopefully) the speed on these things will more than likely double with SATA III.

Both SATA III and USB 3.0 have been ratified and both of which are ready to launch.

some p55 boards will have sata3 so you'll have to wait. new amd boards will have sata3 too. usb3 wont be coming any time soon.

Yeah I know but aren't P55's for i3 and i5?

So we have a slower CPU and a faster hard drive, or a faster CPU and a slower hard drive lol.

Yeah I know, after reading doesn't look like USB 3.0 will hit mainstream market until 2011 which sucks tbh. Just hope that adapter cards come out sooner.

I'm not too worried about USB 3.0 tbh because the only real difference is the transfer rate, of which I don't exactaly care about my USB drives transfering data quicker, but I do care about my hard drives being quicker.

I just hope that we don't have to wait too long for SATA III at least.
 
It pains anyone too buy any hardware right now, and yes its true few months later something cheaper/faster is gonna be out but thats the way it works.

I use too be such a hardware whore usualy selling off my entire brand new pc 6- 10 months afterwards but since theres not really any buzzing activity or no bf3 or anything decent out aint bothered just like yourself am waiting for all the new boys toys which feels 10 years away, but maybe thats a good thing gives us time to waste money on other things :)
 
if you use raid (pointless on SSDs but some still wish to use it) most onboard or even HardWare raid can do around 600-800MB/s, Sata 300 is Not the max the raid will operate at as the controller it self has an max total transfer rate
 
VortX is correct, this whole industry is at at a standstill, and i think you're incorrect in saying that the companies are actually making money off this. It would be much better for them to advertise new motherboards with SATA 6gbps and USB3 as selling points. Rather it has everything to do with the recession, 2nd half of next year should be much more interesting. I have just ordered my i7 rig as i have gotten tired of waiting, should be a fine rig for many years to come and easy to add more memory and a SSD later.
 
Yeah I suppose it could be related to the recession.

And at HighlandeR, yeah hardware is always on the move, but USB and SATA isn't exactly updated on a monthly basis lol. USB and SATA are big steps, and they are important steps, unfortunately they are also slow steps lol.
