Squatters occupy MPs' 'main home'

lol I love the neighbours bringing over milk... MPs shouldn't have second homes they should conduct meetings in yahoo chat instead, they can deal with all the peados directly.

No, this country is going to the dogs because of retards like this and laws that justify their actions.

Squatters rights? they break into other peoples homes and occupy them againt the will of the owner, and they have rights?! Bugger that, if this ever happened to me they would be on the receiving end of a severe beating.

It's perfectly legal. The sponging oxygen thieves who own this property have not bothered to live in it, so other people are entitled to move in.

Awsome, so they can do that without paying for it, without permission from the owner and this is now "right"?

I don't honestly care that the MP hadn't lived in it and I am not arguing that it is right that the MP has it by way of tax payers money, in fact I totaly dissagree with the idea of 2nd homes but however you look at it by law it is THEIR home and these mororns have broken into it and are now flaunting a stupid law to protest another which I find pathetic.

Also no Skyfall, I am refering to people who think the above, that somehow a law can be changed by "acting out" like a 12 year old and trying to justify it with an arguement like "they are doing something stupid so I'll do something stupid to".

While I think its funny what they are doing, I still dont like the idea of squatters rights. I worry that after going away for a holiday that one day, some smelly oik will have shacked themselves up in my house and claimed cockhead rights.

It would have to be an extraordinarily long holiday. Squatters can't just barge into your house after a few days. The squatters in this case didn't move in until the house had been vacant for at least 7 months. Additionally, the owners are entitled to boot them out by issuing a court possession order, which requires the squatters to leave within 24 hours and forbids them to return for 12 months.

Well that was a good read, so what these people are doing is in fact a civil offence?
.

I think it's generally known it's "wrong" to do, but not really a crime that can get you imprisoned, unless of course you barged into the house while the legal occupiers were there in which case it would result in probably breaking and entry, threatening behaviour and a whole host of other things.

But yeah, Civil offence where of course it's you against the individual rather than the laws of the country we live in.

I mean some homeless drug addict could get into your home while you are on holiday and claim they can't be made to leave, does that sound like fun to you?

I'd just live in my other home, paid for by the tax payer. ;)

Yep. And the owner can respond by issuing a court possession order, forcing the squatters to leave within 24 hours. Is there a problem here?

Why is it pathetic? It seems perfectly sensible to me. In fact, it's an excellent way to highlight the MPs' abuse of the expenses system.

Eugh forget it, arguing this with the "I hate the government" brigade is impossible.

I end by saying what I have already said, I hate squatters and abusing stupid laws because others do so is not the right way to go about making changes. If it does change anything, great, but the means do not justify the ends for me and I find what these people are doing is no better than what they are doing it to complain about.

I wasnt actually aware of squatters having rules about when they can half inch your gaff until the link above was posted.

Interesting that they have been waiting 7 months to move in, yet the kafuffle with expenses has only been going on in the past two months. Me thinks they just jumped on the band wagon to gain public buy in on their scheme.

Fenris, I think you're missing the point. These are locals, not homeless people\actual squatters, They arent going to squat there forever, It's a stunt to to make a point, that the home has been empty so long the squatting law applies to it.

And because of this, I'm all for it.

What scheme? As has already been pointed out, these people are not homeless. They're protesting aganist the MPs' abuse of expenses by squatting in a vacant property. They don't intend to be there forever.

In a statement on Monday they said: "It is our home and has been very special to us for a long time. We find it extremely upsetting to know that our house is occupied by squatters who appear to believe that they are entitled to do what they wish in our property."

Aaww, diddums... It's our tax money and has been very special to us for a long time. I find it extremely upsetting to know that our money is being used by gravy-boating spongers who appear to believe they are entitled to do what they wish with our money.
