**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

I don't think a right back is priority this season. We still have wes, neville, oshea and rafael who can all fill in there so not sure that would be high on fergies agenda.

A decent striker and a left winger/playmaker would be good (not asking for much I know...)

From what I've seen from Valencia his pace can hurt teams. Hopefully he will become a proper winger and start slinging some decent crosses in for us, which is what we have missed I think. I would rather have signed Ashley Young to be honest, but he would have cost more obviously.

Valencia is a better player than Young in my opinion! Valencia is quick, strong, skillful and can cross a good ball, all that you want from a winger!

Young is similar to Lennon or Walcott, they've got pace and skill but unable to deliver the final ball! Theyre all the same player!

Only my opinion though! No need to start a flaming war! ha ha!

Jesus wept - when are Madrid going to stop their spending this summer - just how far are they going to go in rebuilding their team?!

The worst thing is that Plattini is keeping his gob shut about it, if it had been eg Man City or Chelsea who had spent all this money his mouth wouldn't stop

Apart from Lennon showing signs of improvement of course.

As is Walcott although, sometimes, he tries too hard to impress and breaks down an attack by trying to do too much.

Apart from 3 poor defenders who will leak goals against top English teams and Raul, that is a mighty, mighty strong team.

I think that was more the Manager rather than poor defenders, There's 3 top defenders there, Marcelo needs more time and guiding! Pellegrini will get them sorted, he did absolute wonders with Villarreal. Top top manager! CL + League coming there way - i think so!

Real's policy has always been we'll score more than you anyway.

Now we just wait for them to not win anything worth while next year. Its not as easy as handing over the money and playing. Im looking forward to it as it could go either way. They have the potential to be sublime but honestly, after watching Barca in the final of the CL I cant see even the players of Real Madrid giving them a challenge. Barca are just amazing when they play well as a team.

This is coming from a united fan as well. They gave us a lesson in football as a team and that is where their strength lies, they have brilliant players but they are better than the sum of their parts. Real Madrid I fear are not.

That's because he is a complete two faced Roger Hunt in all honesty. I don't remember him moaning when he sold out his native France to go where the money was in Italy

I'm already bored for these Benzema rumours, wish Real would just hurry up and sign him and put the whole thing to bed

I'd prefer Aguero anyway :p

It's completely different. Man city/Chelsea are using 'oil money' which distorts the transfer markets. Real are probably using up their transfer budget for years to come this summer, and if the team doesn't deliver then the club could be in trouble. If it doesn't work out for City they will just replace the manager and spend another £150m next summer, that is if the owners don't get bored with it.

Plattini is just trying to change football to favour the italian and spanish sides.

England has the best league in the world yet we cant persuade some of the top players to come here. Why? Because most sane people would rather live in madrid than manchester. We need to have something to even the odds in the transfer market. Money seems to be the only thing that matters more than the lifestyle.

Now we seem to have the issue that even when we do get good players we have to fight every summer to keep them from migrating to other european clubs. Why would players leave to go to lesser clubs. Real have proved that they are not in the top 5 in the world and yet they have done what no other club could have done.

Young is similar to lennon and Walcoot, skill but no final ball, have you ever watched any of them play at all?

Young had what, 18 assists last year, I think 2nd in assists to Fabregas who got 24 in a ridiculously good season, this year aswell, bunch of goals, loads of assists. Only when O'neill switched up the team in Jan after freaking out did Young become less effective, but thats because the whole team did. Young has the chance of being one of the very best wingers in the world, Walcott and Lennon will never ever be close to that class of player, neither are in truth very good at all.

Young has shown in multiple seasons high assist numbers, similar form and the ability to get 5-10 goals a year with 10-20 assists, those numbers far exceed what we've seen from one year out of Valencia where his form also dipped largely as the teams form dipped.

Valencia certainly could be very good, but theres nothing to say they certainly will be. But to prented Young isn't very good is nothing but a joke.

Personally I think Young would be great at any top club, and Utd would probably have done better to spend closer to 25m on Young, whose proven and has a killer final ball, a great cross, can play either wing or upfront if needed, than 16-18mil on someone who might be good. Arsenal would do well to sign him considering the stupid english rules coming in.

Real still have massive defensive issues, in all their big games that entire back 4 made dozens of mistakes, all to blame. Ramos is just a terrible defender, the other 3 aren't particularly good, all 4 need replacing.

THey won't recoup that money in 2 years, they "might" recoup the money in 4 years IF they win a LOT of things. THey need long runs in the CL and CL wins for the 20-25mil prize money.

Remember that they've spent what, 200mil maybe, maybe up to 300 by the time they are done. yes they'll recoup money in shirt sales, but they were selling shirts anyway, its only a little morecall it 25mil over a few years if you're lucky. They were ALREADY coming 2nd in the league, coming first isn't worth that much more, a little, but not much, they are already a huge club so advertising is already good, being winners won't increase sponsorship/ad sales by much over what it already is. LIkewise, you can bet that they'd get to the knockout stages of CL at least which is worth some 30-40mil all told, their biggest extra income will be the extra rounds and the 20mil prize for actually winning the CL and thats by no means gaurenteed, neither is the league. Barca have an equally good team and form and are used to playing together with a better defense.

I think Walcott has got a good, effective final ball, don't know why people say otherwise. Must be because Arsenal only ever allow 1 player in the opposing penalty box, making it very hard for Walcott to pick out an Arsenal player when he's surrounded by 5 defenders. Times like at Anfield last year in the CL and this year in the PL he had excellent composure at the end of a very long run. I think his composure in the final third is one of his strong points.

The club won't be in trouble, they'll be bailed out by localised banks and the Royal family again.

Wasn't he in the press yesterday twaddling on about the prem, too much money. Theres "almost" a point in that other big leagues state that the clubs need to I think be 51% owned by people from their country, which means foreign billionaires can't get their hooks into a team.

The problem is theres lots of ways around that, buying 49% of the shares and paying someone for instance spanish to buy another 10% of the club for you and having effective control anyway.

But thats not stopping billionaires from spain owning the biggest clubs, nor Italy which has a long history of clubs owned by massive corporations. Ownership is a bit of a stupid point though, when the city of Madrid just randomly decides to essentially invest tax money into the club so it gets a huge boost in cash it doesn't really matter.

I do think we HAVE to introduce wage and transfer caps or the richest clubs will just stretch out the problems further every single year.

Champs league is nice and all, but most of the best games of the year are in the domestic leagues in each country, I want to see the premier league stay as competitive as possible with the talent spread out so as many games as possible are good.
