Becuase tbh I think that is a bargain, I purchased a 'Primo Basic' system with a 4850 for £322inc when it was on offer a couple of weeks ago, I had a problem with the gpu and OcUK swapped the 4850 for the 9800gt eco at no extra cost, I purchased the system for my mum and younger brothers and I have to say it's been been running beautifully over the last couple of days, so well in fact that I'm now considering upgrading my ageing secondary system.

As the 'Primo Basic' system has gone up in price now I thought I'd see if I could do any better speccing up a system using the Asus Vintage Barebones systems instead and buying the extra components separately, and it turns out it works out even cheaper doing it that way so I thought I'd make you guys aware of the above spec becuase for the price I think it's a bargain, I was a little worried about the PSU but I've been testing my mums system with the same GPU running Crysis and it running rock solid, the GeForce 9800 GT Eco doesn't even require any extra internal 6pin power PCI-E power cables, it's just powered straight from the PCI-E slot.

That set up either has no PSU or not a good/big enough PSU for the gfx card.

Replaced the 4850 with a 9800gt? ouch.

Well at least you are happy with it.

Spec's wise the 4850 is a nice card but a) the one I had was faulty, b) it was the noisiest component I've ever owned, and c) it was more power hungry than the 9800gt eco, I'd rather have a card that is whisper quiet, and more power efficient and lose a bit of performance tbh, remember the PSU that is suplied with the barebones system is only 300watt (peak) 250watt (continuous), so it also helps save the cost of upgrading the PSU to help keep the system cheap.

Thanks for the effort but I'm looking for an Intel gaming rig as I stated.

That set up either has no PSU or not a good/big enough PSU for the gfx card.

The system I purchased for my mum is practically the same setup, the Asus Vintage barebones comes with 300watt (peak) 250watt (continuous) PSU and has been running Crysis, COD4, GRID etc on the 9800gt eco without any problems so far.

lol, the 4850 outperforms the 9800gt by quite a bit

I know, but the 9800gt was more expensive so it was good of them to exchange it at no charge, and also If you actually take the time to read the thread I said,

"spec's wise the 4850 is a nice card but a) the one I had was faulty, b) it was the noisiest component I've ever owned, and c) it was more power hungry than the 9800gt eco, I'd rather have a card that is whisper quiet, and more power efficient and lose a bit of performance tbh, remember the PSU that is suplied with the barebones system is only 300watt (peak) 250watt (continuous), so it also helps save the cost of upgrading the PSU to help keep the system cheap".

i did read what you had put i was just lol'in cause in my opinion id rather have the 4850, sorry for the confusion

That's ok dude np, for me power efficiency and silence takes president over performance, it's the reason why I haven't upgraded my main rig for so long, air cooled system but it's practically silent, literary if you put your head next to it it emits about 10db of sound.

There's no need for the 4850 to be either unreliable or noisy. You just had a less than ideal design and as you say, a faulty example. I appreciate your point about energy efficiancy, although you'd be surprised how little the 4850's consume when idling in 2D mode.
I'm not quite sure why you are determined to go for an intel based build, I've always found AMD's to be faultlessly reliable (and Intel for the matter).
Thing is that the OCUK rig linked to has a much better power supply unit, a better graphics card and a better and more attractive case.
Don't let one bad experience with a 4850 put you off, I have the 512mb version of that Asus model - they come with a non-reference cooler which is quiet and keeps the temps much, much lower than the reference design.
They're both good PC's but if it was my money, it would go on the Nero.

Save up and get a "Real Gaming PC", what you put there would have been ok 12/18 months ago but times change, yes you might think that the setup runs what you want but belive me it don't.

Like I said save ya cash, use your mums pc, til about xmas and the you might find a GTX260 for the price of the 9800 eco (Sorry but a GPU that don't need an additional power must be ....)

Hell for £90 more you can get a complete system like :-

XFX GeForce GTX 260 XT 896MB = £129.98 inc VAT
OCZ ModXStream Pro 500w = £52.99 inc VAT
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.50GHz = £51.99 inc VAT
MSI M3-F Intel G31 = £38.98 inc VAT
Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 8500C5 = This Week Only Offer was £39.99 inc VAT now £37.98 inc VAT
Samsung SpinPoint F1 320GB SATA-II HDD OEM = £34.99 inc VAT
Coolermaster Elite 335 Case = £28.99 inc VAT
Pioneer DVR-216DBK 20x DVD±RW SATA = £17.99 inc VAT
Total = £406.85 inc P&P

From the OP's OP the price was £321.62

So another £85.23 you could get the above, no brainer really dude.

Just hope I aint missed anything off the quote.
