**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

I dont think that will happen at all. Even with the woefull team they have had the last 3 years they still won it two of the last three years. For all the spleen venting people do over barca because of one of game against united Real have never been that far behind.

Granted Real have spent more on Ronaldo than Barca spent on the whole team that won the CL but I can't see Barca getting near them next year.

Real were lightyears behind Barca this season. Real won their games against the crap teams as Barca did but when push came to shove in games between the top 4 and 5 Barca were miles ahead of everyone.

I don't think people were impressed by one of Barca's games, it was their whole season except the two Chelsea games where they put 11 men behind the ball.

Barca should still be favourites for La Liga next season, Real can spend all the money they want but Barca will still have 3-4 of the best players in the world in their position.

The signing of Valencia will do little to appease the fans.

Depends on what fan's you're referring to, if it's some of the United fans on this forum then you're probably right for the real fans though we dont see it as much of a problem

Ok dont get me wrong I was excited last night reading that Benzema might be on his way, and was obviously slightly peeved when it was confirmed this afternoon that Real had trumped us again but what would a new striker have meant to United?

Would it have meant Berbatov who we spent 30 million on less than 12 months ago being benched? More than likely. Would it of meant in the really big games Rooney would have been played from a wide area again totally nullifying his ability? Without doubt.

While I still fully think going into next season with just Rooney and Berbatov is asking for trouble (especially as Ronaldo's goals have now gone) at least now Rooney will be played in his proper position just by lack of other options in that position and with a proper out and out winger like Valencia who knows maybe going into next season with more or less what we have will be a blessing in disguise.

With Benzema gone, Aguero not really a target IMO I think the best thing United can do right now (unless something totally out of the blue happens and someone no one expected become's available) is keep hold of Campbell and hope between him Welbeck & Macheda we have enough in these three to provide backup to Rooney and Berbatov

Who knows though maybe with Benzema at Real, Eto'o staying at Barca we'll give signing Villa another crack or maybe as I alluded to make a bid for someone totally unexpected like Van Persie

the absolute best signing we could make, and it's never going to happen. would be fabregas. i think he would be out of this world for us.

Fantastic player without doubt but I've got to question his attitude, all this flirting his done with Real/Barca so far this summer and then the quotes about Arsenal not winning anything - my answer to him would be shut up and sort your own game out first! Ok he was injured for large periods last season but when he did play his form was questionable and he wasn't great for Spain in the Confederations Cup either by all accounts.

Like you said though it's never going to happen anyway so ignore all the above :p

Sad to Valencia going but he has the skill and the experience in the prem to be a United legend, he is a true winger and will get stuck in and I hope he has a great career at Man United.

Him and Palious were outstanding to watch.

United will really struggle this season if they have to rely on Wellback, Macheda and Campbell.

I see nothing special in any of them :/

I always said Valencia would be a great player (even before Paul Jewell signed him). He was great at the World Cup 2006 and in the Qualifiers leading up to it.

What surprises me is that it has taken this long for a top club to snap him up.
Even though I am a Spurs fan, be good to see him do well at Utd...

If you saw nothing in Macheda after that goal he scored against Villa.... well I dunno what to say

To not mention Welbeck's odd moment or two last season would do him a disservice as well. As for Campbell.... meh he's got pace so will stretch defences, dunno he scored goals in the Championship, wasn't really given much of a chance at Spurs which was understandable seeing as he was only there to make up the numbers following Berb's move to us, think he'd do well for Hull if he does go there personally

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/stats?id=38886&cc=5739

19 assists all told this season, in a year he missed several key months of, got 8 assists and 3 goals in 22 league games, another 5 assists in 9 champs league games, woeful, questionable performances. I think he had one bad performance. The difference, as with any player, is a pass that a player latches on to and scores from looks great, the same exact pass that a player doesn't run to get on the end, and finish from, looks crap. A certain big useless player kept not doing anything with Fabregas's passing, aswell as the fact the team was completely mismanaged, and Fabregas was pushed forwards, infront of some truly inept players who couldn't get the ball to him. He was out of those games from being played out of position and getting none of the ball.

He only had one game all season where he actually had a mare and none of his passes were working, can't name a single player last year who didn't have a mare, each and every single person short listed for the PFA to start with.

As for talking to the press, he's gone on record, once, which is about 39 times less than most of your players. he was asked a question, he answered, he said we weren't good enough and it hurt that we hadn't won anything in years, neither of which I find offensive or untrue.

He was also Spains best player in the confed cup, the team after he was subbed, and in the playoff without him, is a completely different team to the one the one that plays with him on the pitch.

Also, he has been asked several times if he has plans on moving, and he gives the very simple answer of; No.

Do you guys seriously think Real will be unbeatable with that defence? Also, Barca are such a special team as they have incredible work ethic and the players all really look like they want to work for each other. Can you really see Kaka and Ronaldo busting a gut to get the ball back like Iniesta and Xavi do? It's rare to find players who are supremely talented AND work exceptionally hard, I still think Barca are a better team than Real. I also think that Messi and Iniesta are the 2 best players in the world, not Ronaldo and Kaka (although they're the next best 2 :p)

You know I'm glad you put that so nicely because it just goes to prove that stats actually mean nothing. Just because Fabregas did manage to get x amount of assists does that mean he played well? No it just means he made x amount of passes and the player on the end of them put the ball in the back of the net

Ah so sweet you're as deluded about Fabregas not leaving Arsenal as all us Man Utd fans were about Ronaldo. Give it 12 months and you'll be sat here thinking to yourself "yeah I guess the warnings signs were there" in the meantime enjoy your bubble of ignorance

Spot on, for all their individual brilliance Real even if they manage to get Alonso still wont have the players to hold and pass the ball the quality of Xavi, Iniesta and even Toure and as I said previously if there's no one in their midfield to win and pass the ball then no service for Ronaldo, Kaka and co to score the goals

Dont get me wrong I'm not saying Madrid are going to fail completely I just dont think they'll do any better than they did this past year, they'll still be found out when it comes to a 38 game league season and they're without a doubt be found out in the latter stages of the Champions League

Who are Madrid buying next? Ribery and Aguero as well? How Santander and the other Spanish bank can lend a team £200m in this current climate I will never know. I suspect business sense didnt even enter the decision process.

Also,

Thats been vandalised hasn't it? Aguero isn't actually joining Liverpool is he?

edit: Person seems to be adding info at the moment. I'll let him/her finish before I revert it.

He signed yesterday, didn't you hear?

You serious? I can't find anything on the internet.

Also the person has written

"In the early hours of the morning of June 2nd it was reported that Liverpool had completed the signing of Agüero for an undisclosed fee."

So surely thats now. The person who wrote it didn't do it properly and so isnt showing up in the article. Only in the code.

Bwa ha ha - love Wikipedia.

Ok I'm reverting it all. If they want to write about the supposed transfer, they can source it next time.

No, you completely misquoted and misconscrewed what I said to suit your means. Fabregas IS great, he plays great and the stats DO prove this. THe difference is the chances he created, by the bucketload, for Ade, he managed to put some away and everyone things Ade is fantastic and Fabregas is ok. This season Ade's not got luck running for him, the chances are all the same, Fabregas is as good as he was, but people think he had a bad season because the team did less well, less goals were scored and his passes weren't making goals in every game.

AS for Fabregas not leaving, you're being a fool, firstly, I'm the first one to say he deserves to go, and should go. He's by far our best player, he's the best player in his position in the world, why would I say that, the team that won the champs league and played some of the best footie in the world, being Barca, has Iniesta in that role. Iniesta played for Spain in the Euro's, but it was only when Fabregas came on that the team "clicked" and got all the goals. Iniesta's a great player, in a great team, and looks great, but Fabregas is still better than him.

I'm not deluded, his remarks aren't anything like Ronaldo's, there aren't a bunch of offers for him, he's on a long term contract and at this second he doesn't want to leave, he wants to win things, AT ARSENAL. Ronaldo won literally everything he could at Man U and ALWAYS stated he wanted to play at Real, he's made no secret of it, and has said it since before he joined Man U. I'll be completely happy, and won't decide to change my mind about how good Fabregas is, if Wenger takes the team yet another step further into mediocrity this year and Fabregas realises its time to leave next year, i'll say good on him, massive loss, couldn't be happier for the guy.
