**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

I thought Manchester United, weren't going to sign anyone over 26 ?

I think owen will get goals, but he's a cripple, he has spent the majority of the last few seasons in the hospital. If he stays fit, could be a great signing.

There is still nearly 2 months left of the transfer window and people think united won't sign another player if we sign owen? I bet we do ;)

Certainly! Im sure they there will be another 2 faces in the squad.

I'm 100% certain he can get fit again, he's only 29 - has plenty left in him! How many proper bad injuries has he had? 2 or something?

For God's sake how many times do I need to say this...

It's not we're not signing anyone over 26.

It's we aren't paying stupid money for anyone over 26 years old.

Owen will be a free transfer.

Calm down.

I couldn't remember what they had said.

Calm down, someone asked a question on the internet

I can't be bothered to read to see how many fickle fans have posted since i posted last...

It's a joke, if the majority of Man Utd fans don't come out and say what they have been saying for a long time about Owen then you are all ridiculous...

Since joining Newcastle Owen hasn't been worth anyones time, he has been linked with big teams before and you have all said he is a waste of money and time and some people have said he isnt a premiership striker anymore! Never an england striker again either..

Well.. how funny football talk is! Surely when he scores a few goals in the the first few games he plays he will be the best in the league and the best England striker again.

I'll never forget how much of a misery he was at Newcastle, injury after injury, fair enough in the games he has played, the total goals is like 1 in 2 or 3 whatever, but the money he has cost Newcastle and time he has cost us...

If he completely turns his career round and Man Utd and gets to the World Cup next year then well done, but otherwise thankyou for leaving :)

Its hard to tell if you are a bitter Newcastle fan who is annoyed because you spent so much money and wages on a dud player that you were going to have as your main striker or you are just being silly. He is never going to be the best in the league again and no one is saying that. People didnt slate Michael Owen for being rubbish, they slated newcastle for paying so much for him. There are always loads of much worse strikers in the league than Owen but no one else is stupid enough to pay what newcastle did for owen.

All people are saying is that for the price we are paying he is worth a go. If the rumours are true about the terms then we get a potentially useful player for near to nothing. We wont rely on him like newcastle were hoping to do. If he does nothing we lost a few quid, cest la vie. If he does well then we have got a good deal. Its a very low risk signing. He will provide cover up front and in case we cant get another striker by the transfer deadline then he is a safety net.

I'm not happy about Owen apparently going to Manchester United - I was laughing at how washed up he is, and now all of a sudden he's going from a recently-relegated club to the Premier League champions! It's madness!

Owen on a free isn't a bad signing at all. He'll score goals at Utd, but it's a matter of can they get him fit. Definitely looks like Berbatov/Rooney are their main strike force, though. Utd will still sign more, i reckon.

In four years at Newcastle, Michael Owen started 65 games and scored 30 goals. He is reported to have cost the relegated club an eye-watering £41m in fees and wages. (Various)

Good record, but lol 4 years :D

I think Fergies just hoping for a miracle, Owen has basically done eff all in the last 4-5yrs even Liverpool didn't want him back.

I would have expected him to end up at Stoke or Hull on a one year deal.

Owen will make back (or at least heavily subsidise) whatever he costs in wages in increased shirts and merchandising sales for Manchster United. Especially in the far east. :)

Hmmm not so sure myself. I honestly don't know or can think many united fans would buy and wear an owen shirt.

Not sure about Asia, those little ****s just buy the shirt of whoevers winning ;) So Real Madrid shirts are more likely :D

Probably will make a fair bit, ridiculous amount of fans over in Asia.

But yeah, Madrid shirts sales will go through the roof.

pictures on ssn of owen leaving carrington and entering hospital for latest stage of tests.

as they just said, sherringham, cantona and larsson all came in towards the latter stages of their career and did very well. personally think its a great deal to do, no fee and potential goals.
