**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

I like it me.

And anyway the press still haven't posted a proper picture of it, it's yellow and white not yellow and orange like those in the press.
Every pic I've seen of it has just been the one off the official site with Taylor modelling it.

It's it own way, it's not actually too bad, it's just not really Newcastle, and white and yellow is an odd combo.

Just doing a bit of digging on Owen at the moment, despite all of this talk about him not playing many games etc...

His last few seasons since moving to Real Madrid have been...

Year | Played | Scored | Team
04/05 43 - 16 (Real Madrid)
05/06 11 - 7 (Newcastle)
06/07 3 - 0 (Newcastle)
07/08 31 -13 (Newcastle)
08/09 31 - 10 (Newcastle)

Bar the two bad years of injuries he's still been a good threat, last season he still netted 10 goals despite the team he was playing for eventually getting relegated.

Stats-wise it doesn't seem as bad as people seem to make out.

I'm not saying he's not lost pace or his skill have gotten worse since his injuries but he's still getting the goals!

I've been saying this for years. He's not the same Owen that scored vs Wimbledon all those years ago but no matter what people say about him, his goals to games/starts ratio has never really dropped.

Owen's biggest problem is that he scores his goals in batches; he needs 4-5 games to get un and running, he'll then score 5 in 5 and then get injured and it starts all over again.

Owen will be a class signing for Fergie. Its known that Fergie rotates his sides so this should fit in well to Owen's recent schedule of only playing once in a while.

He will average a goal every other game as well, and if he can keep his fitness, he will regain his goalscoring touch and everyone will be hailing Fergie for yet another piece of shrewd business.

Yep, he'll score for near enough any team, and have a good ratio considering. He'd still be a good signing for near enough any team (if all?), especially without a transfer fee.

I herd, on the football ramble I think that Owen has the best chance conversion rate in the league. Every time the ball came to him in a goal scoring position, he scored, more then he missed.

As a pool fan I'd say the complete opposite. The one thing I've learned about Owen is he needs regular football. He maybe a great signing, but he needs to stay fit and he needs to get a run of games.

Im a man utd fan, the idea of owen joining us is a joke, it reeks of desperation, hes done, liverpool got the best years out of him, when i first heard about this farcial idea i wondered does fergie think its 1999 when owen was ok, not 2009, we sold ronaldo for a very tidy sum, and lost out on benzema, utd have been made to look very stupid in the transfer market so far. And i doubt fergie will get much more to spend, even with the ronaldo payment, the glazers will probably use that money to service the debt. Michael owen should retire and concentrate on his property business and his very good race horses.

i think all the united fans need to relax and remember this isnt football manager but that funny old game called football.

did no one watch the usa v spain game? or the fa cup games? ever wonder how the giant killers do it?

football is a team game lads and lots of stars does not make a sucessful team.giant killers win with team spirit and grit.sometimes if you give it rough to the prima dona players they cant stand it and thier games suffer.the same as man marking ronaldo and kicking him.

we suffered against barca with ronaldo giving away the ball and his woeful work rate and our lack of energy in midfield and rooney out of place.ronnie was our key man on the right side and fergie has simply replaced him with another winger with pace skill strength and a much better work rate and who will actually provide much needed cover for the young brazilians fabio/rafael to get foward and learn thier trade at utd.

carlos tevez was a grafter with a poor goal record but they had all been important goals.fergie has replaced him with another player who maybe doesnt have anywhere near the same work rate, but if fit can get the same goals per season anyways or maybe more.

hes done it all replacing 2 players worth over £100m by spending 17m.

rooney will surely take his place behind our main striker berbatov and if owen hardgreaves can get back fit then we can build a new team around them.hargo will be a brilliant addition if he can get back to his previos performances for england! hes a real keano without the scoring touch.

my only concern is the left wing and perhaps a 4th striker but we need to develop the youth now and avoid the pitfalls of spending over 40m on one player.

nani tosic anderson hargreaves owen macheda and welbeck if those lads can step up now then the future doesnt look so bad to me.

not to mention players like rooney park valencia hargreaves and carrick.thats a pretty mean midfield for those tough away games.all monsters with huge workrates.

i think the owen signing will turn out to be an inspired one in all honesty and im over the moon weve got him.

I hink we will be stronger this year and we will be a better team for getting rid of ronaldo.

you could see the team worked for ronaldo and not for each other as it were over the last few months, hopefully tthe signings made and hargo coming back will mean we can stop playing players out of position and get back to playing square pegs in square wholes.

Foster
Rafael Vidic Ferd evra
Valencia Carrick Hargreaves Nani
Berbattov Rooney

that looks a decent side to me and with

Evans
brown
Kusacak
Owen
tosic
anderson

Thats one helluva a squad in my eyes and with months to go till the season kicks off im sure fergie will have some more targets lined up tha we dont know about ala Nani and Anderson.

Oh forgot about that other 18 year old that we signed from Partizan i think was it Ljaic ? or something well hes due to Man u tthis year as well I believe.
