The *Official* Eve Online Thread

hmm I have just got a 5 day free pass to play EVE again, but I cant connect. Is the server up and running.

you should be able to tell if the server is up when you start the eve client, right next to the username and password it should tell you server status.

Just learnt to use probes and training it up now. Out of interest, when a user logs off OUTSIDE a station their ship warps to a safe spot? Can probes detect these ships allowing you to warp there and jump onto the ship?! :D

Yes but if the ships not agressed, it will dissapear in 30 seconds from the moment they log, so not worth chasing. If the ship is aggressed, then theres a longer timer (15 mins?).

But because the player has logged won't their character deaggro and then disappear after 30 seconds anyway?

Guys after a bit of advice about wormholes. I've been out of the game for ages and came back in, went scanning and was finding a lot of wormholes.
From what i understand, these link to systems off the grid which have npc's called sleepers.
There is a chance i might not be able to come back to empire the way i came as the wormhole can shut.
Would it not be a good idea to head in here with my clone full of high end implants?
If i clonejump and come back in, would i be able to do anything solo? or do you need a small fleet? seems my corp has all left while i was off which is a pain as i fancied having a look into it

The aggro timer lasts even if the player logs off :) so if they have an agression timer and they log, feel free to scan down their ship and destroy it, don't think you can board it though as it's still classed as being occupied.

From what I understand you cannot clonejump while inside a wormhole.

Aye the wormholes have a mass quota, once the mass is exceeded it will collapse meaning you need to find a new exit wormhole, that could take you back into empire or it could takie you into the heart of a 0.0 alliance territory. Some of the easier/lower end sleepers can be killed solo, however there are sleepers out there that will eat battleships alive in seconds.

I would advise against taking in a clone full of implants, you have to contend with pirates camping the wormholes, although you have no session timer, at least last time I tried, so if you enter a wormhole and find it camped, you can simply re-enter the wormhole and escape, but I havent tried in a long time so it may have changed.

they added a 4 minute timer to stop people jumping back and forth yeah. You just have to make sure you use a ship with a large mass, or get a few mates ;).

Also on the session timer iirc a wormhole still has it. However if you look under general options there is a tick box to show the session timer. When ticked it appears as a rotating white circle in the top left when you have a session timer.

May be a silly question, but how do you centre the solar system map on nothing?

I can centre on planets, etc by double clicking, but when using probes I want to centre on a probe which is in the middle of space. Sometimes it centres but it seems to be random!

If you right click and drag, you can move the solar system map freely to wherever wou want.

just started on eve and i'm stuck on one of the first missions i need to make 2 civilian afterburners from a blueprint but i don't have the industry skill and i can seem to work out what skill i need :)

Exactly the skill you just typed "industry"

Type that into the "market" search bar, make sure it's set to region and list things in the sellers column so that cheapest stuff is at the top. You can then decide how much you are prepared to pay vs how far you are prepared travel to get the skill book. :D

Basically it's an agression timer to the Guristas NPC pirates, nothing to worry about really :) nothing to do with human being allowed to shoot you. However don't remote repair the NPC rats :D
