**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Fiorentina have claimed Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to discuss the transfer of Felipe Melo after the Italian club stated Emmanuel Eboue would be a 'valid swap'.

The Viola recently confirmed that Melo's new contract extension holds a €25million (£21.4m) buy-out clause, sparking opinion that a deal could be in the offing.

Serie A rivals Juventus are said to be keen admirers of the Brazilian enforcer, but Fiorentina have intimated the Gunners are leading the chase for his signature.

Fiorentina appear interested in striking a deal that would involve wing-back Eboue, who is seeking regular first-team football in the new season.

"(Arsenal manager Arsene) Wenger wants to talk to me," said Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo Corvino to Gazzetta dello Sport.

"I have no objection also because Eboue seems a valid swap."

Corvino also rejected reports in Italy that Juve are poised to complete the transfer of Melo, who has explained that he is happy in Florence.

"In order for that (Melo to go to Juve) to happen, there needs to be a payment of €25million as stipulated in his release clause," he said.

"No club has made such an offer and there are no meetings arranged in the near future."

I dread to think how bad he is if Eboue is a 'valid swap' :D

Seriously though how can he be a valid swap? THEY DONT EVEN PLAY IN THE SAME POSITION! Arsenal should bite their hands off, they obviously dont know how bad Eboue is! Quick before they see him in action! :p

They will want money on top, unless they're completely crazy.

I think he'll sign sooner rather than later, Wenger is being really quiet on this one.

a lot of different sources stating Obertan is having a medical at Utd - theoretical price of 3m euros - even if this guy did score against England U21 in March it just seems like a waste of money to me

I think you have misread it. Basically the other paper version of this story said that Arsenal offered an amount. And they think with that amount + Eboue it works out a good deal in their eyes.

So I think they wanted 24million.

Arsene offered 34million + Eboue = 24million:D

But it isnt bad. He's actually a decent player. Funny how everyone use to rave about him before Sagna came.

Yes but the lad is a liability and quite frankly a plumb when he gets a yellow card. As soon as any Arsenal Fan sees him on a yellow we all know whats going to happen in the next few minutes.

And me, his name may as well be David Bellion

I'm so depressed about this signing :( Why are we wasting our time?

heyyyy......dont be so unfair to Bellion

(after all Bellion is natually better now that he ISNT part of our squad hahaha - where ever he is now playing, if at all)

he was sent off once iirc, and no one, no one at all gave him credit for his conduct since that sending off. He was a changed player, he is hacked down more than most in the team partially as he's known for reacting, and partially because he runs the ball a lot more than most. He didn't react once since his sending off in probably a dozen or more games. he was very calm, had clearly made a very distinct effort to stay calm and afaik one of the only yellow's he's got since then was that bogus one for well, standing near Park when he fell over.

But Eboue will never get credit for anything because the fans decided to hate him. Can't be sure but RVP's probably been sent off more than he has and reacts a little to often for my liking, but also gets hacked down a lot.

Be very sorry to see him go if he does go, again what I said will be misqouted as me saying he's never been sent off fairly and he's the best player in the world. Neither is true, he's a very good dynamic player though, has real pace and plays the wing incredibly well, good cross, strong, offers something from the wing defensively that no other players we have offer, strength and the speed to get back. He's leagues ahead of Song/Denilson/Diaby and losing him will adversly effect the strength of our squad, while losing any of those other three would help our squad.

MElo was utter crud in the confed cup which to be fair is the only time i've seen him. poor positioning, terrible passing, woeful shooting, that team relied on the very very good Gilberto to make dozens of tackles/interceptions to keep them in it all the way through, Melo offered nothing defensively or going forward........... Don't we already have Denilson for that, infact, Melo looks like a 5 year older, 2 stone fatter, Denilson. Aswell as the fact that we'd be getting him literally days after he signed a new contract with a 21mil buy out clause in it. Surely we could have let his agent know we wanted him before he signed a massive new deal that screwed us out of 15mil extra in transfer fee's. The fact he just signed that contract to me says the whole thing is bogus anyway, but Eboue leaving is a real possibility, just somewhere else.

Ade for Flamini if that was true shoudl have been something Wenger should have done the day the season ended, with "official" notice that Milan have bid for Fabiano I can't see any chance of Ade leaving for milan, so a further several mil wasted on his wages this year, yippee.

According to his stats for this year, Eboue had 1 red, 1 yellow, 25 appearances....... truly awful. Infact he's only gotten 2 red's while at Arsenal, in 5 years, and the most yellows he's ever had is 7 in a full season. Comparing that, Song got 10 yellows with 23 starts this year, Eboue had 1 red card in the league, in 17 starts. From what I can tell, he's never been red carded through a 2nd yellow. So its more mythological BS that Arsenal fans come up as reasons to dislike him. Even despite his non existant discipline problem he STILL made an effort and went from his red card, through the rest of the season only getting that BS yellow, no more in the league or cup, i think that yellow was in the CL when we were getting whoopped.

Its not how many times, it was the stupid things he did to get sent off in important games instead of taking a backseat.

You are so inconsistant with your criticism. You talk about others passing badly, you obviously didnt watch him very carefully. He was so bad in one game, he got subbed when he WAS the sub.

Yes he is quick and made some good runs but his last ball was poor and his shooting even worse. Walcott did more with his attacking runs than Eboue and we both know how much you hate him.

As cover for our RM yes he is fine. Anywhere else and he is an average player with little intelligence. We shouldnt be having makeshift players in positions that they arent comfortable with.

You are consistant in your opinion that yours is the only one that is right though ;)

If you guys think Eboue is a liability you should check out Melo's yellow and red card count from last season, he's the liability :).

Eboue is better (at RB) than he's given credit for. Granted, he's rubbish in midfield, but he isn't a midfielder so I forgive him for that, at least he tried.
