Anyone seen the trailer for this new movie called Summer Wars which opens on August 1st in Japan.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Wi2...rom-tokikake-director&feature=player_embedded

it's from the same people who did The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Looks great imo and i hope it's as good as TGWLTT.

Good year for anime film wise me thinks :). Would be only better if Makoto Shinkai would make another great film sooner :). Speaking of which can' wait until the new 5cm/s dub is released.

Not seen that trailer yet but as you say, if the film is as good as TGWLTT then it could be really good.

Another Shinkai film would be good as well although I had issues with 5cm/s, I have the original, now OOP, DVD release and whilst the visuals were stunning as per usual there wasn't really a strong enough plot to carry them to make a good 'film'. Like the rest of his work it is well worth a watch though.

I know and I will complain if I don't get that one :)

obviously I'm a more valued customer :p

Pah!

You've probably got a real name something like Adam Aardvark and they've been doing it by name :p

My LE arrived this morning :D

I also got **** (with the limited postcards!) and Rozen Maiden Traumend through from TRSI, sans customs charges :D :D (and my latest order for Nerima Diakon Brothers, Solty Rei and the free Hellsing messenger bag shipped this morning)

Which was rather good timing as i'd just finished Girls Bravo the other night.

mine (gurren lagaan) arrived to, is yours called the collectors edition, with the magnetic box and have the drill, badge and emblem in it. Looks like theres 3 to collect to

Its also gone up a fiver since last night :)

A__a, Rozen Maiden Traumend and Solty Rei are all good (need to re-watch the latter). And I am currently reading the manga for Girls Bravo :)

Got Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea to watch tonight.

Ive just looked at this in the rainforest, looks pretty good from the one review on there :p Worth picking up for a fan of NGE, Appleseed, BGC, Mecha in general?

its enjoyable once you get past the first one or 2 episodes (I felt they were a bit daft) so yeah, is it worth the £150 rrp for the 3 SE boxes - no, £75 just :)

you might want to consider gundam 00 which has just been released as you're a mecha fan :)

Ok, this evening I watched Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea, the latest release from Studio Ghibli. No fansub release this was the proper R2(J) DVD release which comes with English subs. There is supposed to be a special edition and blu-ray release for this but I think they have been put back until December. The release I received came with two DVDs, the first of which is the film with Japanese stereo and DTS-ES 6.1 audio tracks and Japanese and English subs. I haven't looked at the second DVD yet and the packaging is, of course, pretty much unreadable (although I remembered the kanji for English Subtitles :)). Note that the front of the packaging does have the films title in English under the main title.

The film, well for me the Studio Ghibli output falls into three piles. The simple and fun child like fantasy of films like Totoro, the reflective more adult films like Only Yesterday or Ocean Waves and the adventures films like Earthsea or Porco Rosso. This sits firmly in the first camp and is marvelous to watch. The plot isn't that big or complicated but you just don't care as it's just a joy to watch it unfold. I'm not going to give any spoilers but there is no need for subs for the first 7 minutes or so and the opening section should look great on blu-ray assuming a good conversion. The film is very much like Totoro in feel and would be suitable for the same age range to watch for the 100mins it lasts.

I would recommend this as a relaxing thing to watch and hopefully it won't be long before Optimum, I assume, will release it over here.

i watched Ponyo today to funnily enough. I thought it was a very fun and charming little film and as you said very similar to Totoro (first time watching that on Film4 the other week). The animation is wonderful to watch and i think Miyazaki has a great sense of whats needed in making a great fantasy/childrens story.

I'd give it 8-9/10. An easy going and entertaining film.

I watched Blood : The Last Vampire (Anime version) last night. Not sure what I thought, I need a second watching, but it really struck me as if it was a pilot to a series - was it actually designed as such? I know there is a series (Blood +), but my understanding was that there is no real connection?

Series and the film aren't connected from what I have seen so far (apart from having Saya in it)
Nothing like each other and a completely different story (unless the series changes since I am only on episode 5 so far)

Recently saw Umisho (think its called that) its the comedy swimming one.

Can anyone recommmend another anime like this? a lot of anime falls short of this and becomes too wierd to watch, but I really enjoyed this one. Theres something just so relaxing and light hearted about it. Its also conclusive too, which is nice when 95% of anime end terribly.

ok so I've just watched the first episodes of canaan, element hunters and needless.

canaan - got a burst angel vibe from the first episode, could have potential.

element hunters - I hope that the first one is someones (fabulous) attempt at a **** take. The subs were dreadful, it was all like my homey and me bitches (female dogs) etc which was so out of character for the age of the main characters.

needless - now THIS could be good, its stupid in the same way as gurren lagann albeit without the mechs. The three main characters just seem so much like kamina, simon and yoko (they're not identical though) that I was just thinking was this written by the same people :)

Will have to check out Needless then, as I love the Gurren Lagann characters. :p

The gurren characters so far (2 episodes in) remind me very much of the style of the ones fro flcl and abenobashi (same character designerss?), especially Yoko with her gun :)

I love the box design.

Oh, you've only just started Gurren Lagann? You're in for a treat. :D

About to start Air now. Watched Kanon, Clannad and After Story recently and I loved them all, so gonna carry on the trend. Heard it wasn't as good but still.
