I can sense the LOL building up in my blood stream :p

When i get into power every computer is going to be equipt with a boxing glove which can be activated via an on-line poll, then i will introduce an idiot tax based on number of times its hit you.

I feel this plan will work well.

Halford's Oil as good as premium ones which meet stringent standards?

Don't think so some how.

Just because you cant tangibly notice a difference does not mean one is as good as another.

There is a website/person somewhere who breaks down oils and checks for all different contaminants etc. £100 says Halford's 'own' comes out considerably worse than premium products.

Show me some proof then.

If oil is going to meet VW standards then it has to "contain" certain things.
It's like saying:

5w-30
Additive 1
Additive 2
Must do this
Must do that

*Bang*
There is your "Meets requirement of VW" badge.

So the very fact that Halfords oil conforms to the VW standards means that it must meet those VW requirements, so it must have "all the additives".
It is the same with Halfords BMW, Volvo, GM - they can't just say it meets the requirements if it doesn't.

This thread just shows that people are indeed brand whores.

Remember these are MINIMUM STANDARDS, whos to say the Halfords stuff doesn't just meet this and the Edge far exceeds?

All oils have different component wear rates, i fully expect edge to be one of the best, but if a passing oil guru turns up he will clear things up.

What is your first question?

TBH idiot tax is already built into all walks of life (we have always referred to it as retard tax).

Ie, putting vpower into a 1.0 car is pre retard taxed at the pump, just the same as i was retard taxed £130 for ignoring a double yellow in henley a few months ago.

No point getting angry about it, i was stupid, and i paid my £130 tax for being so.

Banks and lending institutions are the best at administering retard tax, things like charging for going overdrawn. Genius :D

my cars an jap import and its supposedly ment to run on 100, ive ran it on 95, 97, 99 ron fuels and cannot tell any difference really, it doesn't det or anything and boosts properly economy is crap anyway, but I normally use 95 as I cannot see no benefits at all.

Would you recognise detonation if you heard it?

If I went into a SAAB dealer they wouldn't put Halfords Oil in our 9-5.

The manufactuers develop a car alongside oil companies and tyre companies etc etc to develop a package which they feel will meet the specifications with which they sell the car with. Most manuals don't state "5w40" oil, they state "Mobil 5w-40" oil or such like.

I wouldn't want to hedge my bets against the thousands of hours research by a manufacturer over a few £ if they spell it out so clearly. It's obviously harder for older cars but ask good dealer and they will give you the best advice you could ask for.

The problem is that htese days people treat everything as a throwaway item so they won't have a vehicle long enough to see the difference, so second hand buying is a much bigger risk with modern cars and picky oil requirements.

It moved with V-power it wouldn't on regular fuel?

Tbh i'm not sure how much cross company development happens with most makers and the simple engines, could be loads or it could be a branding thing and some increased income for the car maker.

For example when i had a Saxo it came with a Total sticker on the back window, doubt they went to Total to design an oil for a bog standard engine.

Why oh dear?
It's perfect for me and my needs :)

Might not be any good for you, but I don't need massive accelleration or high speeds. Gets me to and from work and the occasional trip to London (from Swansea) as well as I could need. :D

Dear god :(

Go on then - enlighten us to how there is a "massive speed increase" (your words not mine) with Super Unleaded in a car such as yours.

Enlighten? Surely you mean explain? "Im not Jesus, I've come to accept that now."
Well, you know when you go to the same restaurant, out of habit and always order the same thing. You get to know the taste, you get to know what to expect, you know how to order it and so on. This meal is your favourite meal in a restaurant, and have no reason to change.
However, you end up a different restaurant, and see your favourite meal on the menu. You decide to order it (even though it is more expensive) just to try it out, to see if there is any difference between it, and what you are used to.
And you try it. And it tastes even better. Your favourite meal has now been replaced.

It was just like that. ;)

(it felt much faster than usual, the acceleration was more dramatic (by my little car's standards))
