Super Unleaded - i cant see the point - who runs it?

Entertaining, but what would be miles funnier is a proper explanation of how your engine develops the extra power needed to justify a massive speed increase.

Atm I'm thinking no-one could be that dumb......

Why oh dear?
It's perfect for me and my needs :)

Might not be any good for you, but I don't need massive accelleration or high speeds. Gets me to and from work and the occasional trip to London (from Swansea) as well as I could need. :D

I only drive a 1.2 clio, i don't bother with Super Duper Unleaded because it isnt a performance car which was designed to run on it, and i don't believe you car was either ;)

Yay, if nothing else my thread has created lulz :p

Maybe there is a sharper incline leading away from the Super Unleaded pump at the Shell garage in Swansea. ;)

A 1.0 Uno wouldn't enjoy a "massive speed increase" if it was run on liquid cryptonite, let alone super unleaded.

Suppose i might as well give my input, even though i know this is a funny subject! These topics always make interesting reading :P

Whenever i had a wee 5p off tesco voucher, i sometimes filled up the corsa (1.8 sri) with the tesco 99 stuff... im confident i got more miles out of it that way! 20-30 id say, nothin like 50, but some none the less :)

I have just had the 145 chipped, and im meant to avoid 95 petrol now, so gonna see how that pans out... see what kinda milage i get!

About performance, i thought that was meant to be pretty minimal anyway! Tho, i suppose its a good thing to have the cleaning agents in the fuel :)

Regular premium (95 ron) fuels have the additives/detergents anyway.

The cleaning agents are not exclusive to super unleaded.

I'm not a mechanic, I only know a little about engines. However, I know how I felt and what I experienced after using the super unleaded, rather than the normal fuel that I always had.

If you ask me to explain it, I won't , because I can't, but like I said, I know what I experienced.

If the car is tuned for it, then super has it's purpose. If your car is stock and is not tuned to run on premium then it's a case of The Emperor's New Clothes. You only feel the difference because you've spent the extra money so you want to feel the benefit even if none exists, it's especially useless in a 1.0 Uno which will only feel faster when you drive down a sharp incline (cliff).

Fair enough. :)

How does one know if you should be using it or not? My mate runs it in a VXR Astra and says he has to and its better for it but i'd have thought it was for a lot higher spec machines. He also has some funny notion about sitting in the car for 5 minutes at a standstill before he switches it off and turns off the key. Some 'essential cooldown period' apparently.

its a turbo car, everything you have said are right things to do.

Comma are the make behind Halfords oils - they are also behind Mobil.
This makes no difference. Karmann are the company behind the Nissan Micra C+C and the Mercedes Benz CLK Convertible. Two products desinged to do the same job from the same company. Both are rated to be driven on European roads, meet all appropriate safety standards etc. Does that make them the same?

The reason it feels quicker on super unleaded is for £5 you get less and therefore there is (in line with this thread) a MASSIVE weight reduction which improves the power to weight ratio.............

.........Massively!

It could be that your car needs a damn good service including new plugs, leads, new filters and oil. A good service will restore power in an older car.

Oddly enough, I booked it in, last Monday, for Saturday ;)
Been 30,000 miles since the last one.
