But last season, did you not see him play, he was a fantastic, he's improved a lot. The reason that Juventus offered £18m was because before last season, he'd not been that great, apart from his first season where we won the champions league, where he was excellent. But because of his great form last season, his price has rocketed, but if he can do what he did last season, we should keep him.

Yeah, I think he's awesome, but he's not a player you'd spend £30m, not in a million years ..
 
Plessis cannot do Alonso's job. While I do like the way the lad plays, he's very susceptible to really long and stupid lunges, which you can see coming a mile away. Really just watch him play against midfielders with pace, its like watching the tackling animation from FIFA '97. He's got potential but he's just not ready to do the job Alonso or Masch does. Same can actually be said for Lucas, although I'm not keen on how he plays.

Also Rafa's recently came out and said Veronin can help us push for the title... *sigh*... I'm so tempting to have a big moan, but I'll pass.

Lets just hope that when Alonso goes, the money will be used wisely. We DEFFO need to replace Alonso with an experienced player, not rely on kids. Also I'm still waiting for this striker we desperately need to sign because if Torres gets injured again... well its game over in the quest for silverware. I think we where very lucky to get as many points as we did last year.

No. His price has rocketed because Real Madrid have spent so much money on players this summer. That's all.

Alonso is a good player, He's not a 30 million pound player. Real are interested, Rafa wants to get as much as he can for his players, and seeing what Real have been spending this summer and he's doubled what players are worth, can't blame him for trying to milk his deal.

really? I would, + he will be accustomed to Spain, being Spanish. Quality players like Ballack and Shevchenko had big price tags, but have not entirely lived up to their reputations in England, partly due to the premiership being a much different game to what they were used to, hence why one of them has now gone back.
Especially with prices being much inflated these days, £30m is fairly reasonable for Alonso tbh, maybe a tad expensive, but this is the club who hold the 2 biggest transfer records

Wah? Wasn't Ballack a free transfer?

You have your opinions, I have mine, you're never going to convince me Alonso is worth £30m. I personally think £30m for him is ridiculous even in this inflated market but what do I know!?

I agree though 15-18m max for Alonso, good passer he may be but he doesn't score or create enough or dictate games enough to warrant costing 30m

Maybe he was, I might be mistaking him for another £30m Chelsea signing, sorry :o

To be honest, I hope Alonso performs, should we keep him, to justify all the Real interest.
 
Alonso is deffinitely worth £30m. OK he may not score as many goals as a midfielder in todays game should, but he plays a different and vital role in the rhythm of the team and in setting up attack play.

But it really depends on the team. He wouldn't be anywhere near as effective with Chelsea as he would with Arsenal. In my opinion he would have been an absolute perfect buy for Arsenal, he would have added so much depth in how they play and would have fit in like a glove.

Just wondering, how much does everyone value Carrick at?

Carrick about £15m, Alonso about £15m, I'd still take Arshavin over both of them though. It's almost an insult to say that Alonso is worth 2 Arshavin's. Alas, everybody rates their own club's player higher than they're really worth eh?
 
Arshavin is a completely different player. If someone wanted to buy Carrick they'd have to stump up £20m at least, I imagine Alonso would require a similar price match. There aren't many CM's with the tactical nous and passing ranges of Carrick and Alonso.
 
I know some players do well in some leagues and no in others but I really don't see what the dealis with Ibrahimovic. He played at OT in a pre season a few years back and he was worse than awful. Whenver I see him play for Sweeden or in the Champions League, he is just gash
