Poll Please: Scallop or Fritter?

There's nothing wrong with a "takeaway" per the dictionary definition, but you don't think that the food from most of the local Chinese takeaways is good for you, or actually tastes of anything much, do you?

I would think it depends what dish it is but even then eating in moderation shouldn't do any harm.

What do you think is bad?

The only things I can think of are foods containing bad fats or

Chinese is generally made up of rice, noodles, meat, veg and sauces, these seem ok to me (apart from the sauces which I don't know whats in them)

If you go to a decent takeaway it tastes great.
Of course. I'm talking about the typical takeaway, which doesn't.

There's been plenty of nutritional surveys of Chinese takeaways to show that, typically, the food has incredibly high levels of salt and fat. This is generally what gives it the appealing taste.

Additionally, the ingredients used at the a typical Chinese will be of pretty poor quality. Sweet and sour chicken? It's not going to be the best.

 good takeaway is a typical takeaway.

You get rubbish takeaways and good takeaways. the only way to find out is try.

and whast so bad about fish and chips

Almost zero salt unless you put salt on it.
54g fat

High in fat but not your daily limit. High in calories but again it's a very substantial meal. Perfectly acceptable once in a while and not particularly unhealthy.

But probably only 1 in 5 takeaway places taste good.
You said earlier 1 in 5 takeaways is good. So, 4 in 5 aren't. Therefore, the typical takeaway is not good! :p

I'd say 1 in 5 is optimistic, too. Almost every single Chinese takeaway I've ever been to, of which there must be dozens, I can't recall any one of them being more notable than the other. It's almost identical.

Who cares if it's good for you or not? Having a decent take-away after a night out is hardly going to kill you! After all, it's not like you're shovelling crap into your face day in and day out, is it?

Well I already mentioned the fat, fat isn't always bad, bad fats are bad
Salt, yeah but I suppose that all depends on the amount each takeaway uses

I couldn't really say what the quality of ingredients is like, again this would be down to the individual chinese, my favourite is also a restaurant with an open kitchen and the veg,etc looks pretty decent but of course they are not all as good but I wouldn't say the typical takeaway is bad, afterall they need to make a profit and selling **** will get them nowhere

I don't see what the debate is yes chinese / chip shop / takeaway can be very tasty, but overall they most certainly aren't health food. As with everything though, it's fine in moderation

This is pretty much it.

I made a comment about walking out of a chip-shop and going somewhere that sells decent food, and all this came of that :(

Because it was a silly comment tbh, wreaked of snobbery and was rather patronising.

nothing like keeping the BMW driver image going :p

If I'm a snob for thinking chip-shops and Chinese takeaways sell crap, then so be it! :p
then backing it up with all takeaways taste crap
I said typically they do. You even said yourself 80% of those takeaways are not good. Sorry if that's a generalisation, but it is generally true.
