**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Now that ive thought about it more I really dont think we are going to get anyone in. With Rosicky back (hopefully for more than a few days) he does have a lot of options in midfield (not great options but options) and we might see that young Dutch Midfielder get a go too. Banzante or something like that.

So I think we will sit on our money...then come January realise we shouldnt have and get someone over priced and by then we are virtually out of the league with only the cups to compete for...again.

I hope I am wrong but thats how i see it going. :(

An 'Estimated' 25 Million.

my guess is it was around 22mil before Ade starting getting shirty over a 2mil loyalty payment and unlike Liverpool last season City probably just upped their offer to 24/25mil to cover that payment.

Nice, £18m profit on a wantaway player; almost as good as Anelka.

Edit - Wiki refers to an earlier BBC article that states £3m, was it £7m in total aka a Wenger special deal..

Gutted about Adebayor joining Citeh, a couple of papers this morning swore Chelsea were in with a shout for him:(;)

Man. City's squad isn't that bad now really so they might have a chance of sneaking in to the top 4 next season if Sparky can work out how to play them all, it's certainly no worse than Arsenal's but they have the obvious advantage of knowing how to play as a team.

I've heard very few people who are of the opinion that they will definitely finish in the CL places or win the PL even after spending so much which is really odd seeing as how easy it is to win things when you're able to just buy success apparently.
If I was that way inclined I'd point out that most must agree now that you simply can't buy trophies, you need to invest wisely and build towards it as every successful team has.

I wouldnt say its short in quality in the foward department plus id say it isnt far off in the midfield either but city need to sign some quality defenders. Arsenal need a few quality players too, if anyone is gonna drop out of the top four it will be Arsenal, if anyone will break into the top 4 it will be city

You honestly think City's squad is no worse than Arsenals? It may be bigger but well short on quality.

aye gotta agree mate.

Fabregas and Arshavin eclipse the entire City squad. they have paid well over the odds for a not so fantastic bunch of players. if they stood a chance of top 4 next season Robinho will have to play fantastic all year. because the rest are all stop starters especially up front. Tevez will moan about not being played, Santa Cruz will be injured all year, Robinho will suck his thumb in the corner because the defense is shoddy and Adebayor doesn't care, hes got his fat check in the bank each week. Id be very suprised if Hughes manages to motivate this team anywhere.

I agree, and I disagree.

Take Chelsea for example. They proved that you can buy trophies. Chelsea, arguably had a much better team to start with, and a much more talented manger.

I don't know about Manchester City, they still have a fairly average defence. The better teams in the League (the ones they're up against) have much better defenses and could probably exploit City's weak back line.

Chelsea had a top 2 team and strengthened the team(without Mourinho's help) and Arsenal were much worse the following year rather than Chelsea improving dramatically under Mourinho, the majority of the winning players were already there.

People are discounting City because, well, not entirely sure why. I don't think Ade and Tevez are great players, far from it, but both will get goals, having Tevez as a first team starter didn't stop Utd winning the Champs league and the title, and another title after that. He wasn't the guy that made the team click but he wasn't so bad he prevented it either.

People like to rag on their defence, which started off terribly, but that was mostly Ball/Hamann/Zabeleta who between them were simply a joke. all 3 are done now, Onoura was also terrible and was only playing due to Kompany being injured. Dunne and Richards for 2 years before were great, and dunne for another couple years before that.

They'll pull it together with a better squad around them and without such terrible players playing anymore.

Remember Hamann/Vassell played half a season last year. Robinho was quality, he wasn't poor in away games he simply couldn't do much about those other few who were terrible, who won't be there. Ireland isn't quite Fabregas's level, but he was still superb all last season, again let down by those around him.

Not saying they'll certainly finish in the top 4, but they have a serious chance, as do the normal top 4. It took Chelsea years to get up to their level and City need time, more importantly their owners know this even if the fans don't.

They also have maybe the best defender in the league behind them and now one of the better midfields to protect that back 4.

Personally I don't rate Tevez, Ade, Bellamy, Elano or SWP are title side winning first teamers, but all are good enough for rotation/backup and all are a ridiculously large step up from the likes of Vassell/Hamann.

Chelsea weren't a top four team before Abramovich though, they were struggling to break into the top 4.

You finished 4th after beating us on the last day, the season before RA took over.

I don't think you finished in the top 4 many times in the 3-4 seasons previous to that though.
