Will You Buy Windows 7???

let's not kid ourselves that one is getting anything other than a revamped copy of Vista repackaged and rebranded.

You still haven't addressed the improvements which AcidHell2 and I put forward.

What exactly were you hoping for from 7 - a new OS from the ground up? It was always clear that that wouldn't be the case - the major rearchitecting was done in Vista. But that doesn't mean that 7 isn't worth it. Using your line of thought, XP can be seen as a 'revamped copy of 2000' - which didn't stop everyone using it.

Sorry for asking a question in this thread but I didn't really want to start another thread for it.

I'm stuck using a mac at the moment and I can't download the RC from microsoft.

is there a direct universal download link for the ISO?

I want to have it ready for when my new parts arrive but I won't be home until tuesday which is delivery day.

However, now they've changed the name given the UI a facelift and done a few minor tweaks I think it's great!!

Lol. Just lol. I've used Vista since it first came out and still use it at work every single day. Windows 7 is also used at work and home every single day. Windows 7 runs a LOT faster on the machines and the hard disk isn't continually thrashed. It also looks cleaner and just feels a lot more responsive.

This isn't my unbiased opinion, this is the opinion too of loads of people at work too who use both OS every day. Windows 7 feels more streamlined and is more of a finished product than Vista was. UAC has changed, UI has changed, backend processes have changed making it work better on lower spec hardware. It's not simply a different UI

I wasn't expecting anything other than what W7 is in fact it's slightly more than I expected. What I do object to is everyone saying how good W7 is blah blah such a huge improvement over Vista etc. etc. All those posters do is demonstrate they haven't the first clue what they're talking about.

If I was an XP user then of course I would upgrade to W7. Having said that I would have upgraded to Vista a long time ago (what am I saying I did). I would however upgrade quietly and not make the ridiculous statements concerning W7 that I read on this and other forums. As a Vista user though it gets even worse, all this rubbish about how much easier networking now is. How hard is it with Vista - all I remember it being was a few clicks of the mouse and my Laptop was sharing files with my Desktop and guess what I've only ever had to do it the once, phew thank goodness eh? I'm running Vista with 1.25 gigs of RAM and an 80 gig HD on my Laptop and it runs Vista with full Aero Glass etc without any complaints lagging freezing or anything else. At the end of the day W7 is an evolution OS it's not the second coming begining and end of.

Nobody thinks it is the second coming. It's £45, it's a very fine OS and it's a great improvement on Vista. Take it on its own merits.

Fine. Keep using Vista. Stay in the minority who don't rate 7. Ignore the way that 7 was preordered more in one day than Vista was in seventeen weeks.

Just stop moaning when other people report positive experiences. Nobody has a gun to your head making you buy 7. It's getting rapidly tedious.

Lordy you fall for the oldest marketing trick in the book - roll up roll up hear all about it, last day of great sale - :D Have you read the story of "The Emperors New Clothes"? Ditto on the tedium front BTW

What's the saying - "none as deaf as those that don't want to hear"

I just know that Paul Thurrott although has a wide audience, is an arse and has made some laughable comments. He regards himself as an insider yet makes rudimentarymistakes and as such I can't take anything he takes seriously.

For £45 its a no brainer and the pre-release worked brilliantly. How many sales do Steam get during their discount weekend deals? I'd hazzard a guess at TONS!
Is it better than Vista? I've only had limited experience of vista on a new HP laptop with only 1Gb of RAM. It didn't work well till it was upgraded to 2Gb,so I'd say no.
I've been running the RC on my 6yr old 1.6Ghz Centrino HP laptop with just 756Mb RAM and it is better than when XP was on it.

If you've bought Vista already then I can understand the disappointment. But coming form XP its a whole new world!

Disappointment with Vista - hell no I love Vista and I also think Vista SP2 is good as well (sorry I mean Windows 7) :D

For three machines it's a lot more of an investment and for the alledged benefits I don't think it's worth it over and above Vista

So basically you don't want people to talk about Windows 7? What are we supposed to say then? "I've just moved to Windows 7 and I feel completely indifferent about it, as it is neither better nor worse than Vista."?

I would however upgrade quietly and not make the ridiculous statements concerning W7 that I read on this and other forums. Most people here are Vista users, so I think we're all in a pretty good position to judge what's improved in 7 over Vista. Live in denial if you like, but 7 does have improvements over Vista; if it didn't, it'd be a completely pointless release and people here wouldn't be so positive about it. Networking in Vista is easy, but in 7 it's easier. It's like that all across the board, very few things are dramatically different but they've been tweaked and improved to make things cleaner, easier to use and quicker. I'm evidently not the only person who's noticed this otherwise people wouldn't be disagreeing with you to the extent that they are.

At the end of the day W7 is an evolution OS it's not the second coming begining and end of.

Nobody's saying otherwise, but you're on a tech-orientated forum, do you really expect people not to get excited about 7 and discuss it to the extent that we are?

I'll refer you to post 1085 - an argument doesn't improve for keep repeating it.

And yet here we are.

I made the upgrade from Vista to Win7 because I have an ssd, and win7 is not only better optimized imho, but takes up a lot less space on my ssd.

I have been using Vista Ultimate for about 2 years until recently and I'm impressed with the changes I have noticed with win 7.

Personally other than appearance changes and moving a couple of things I really didn't think Vista was all that different than XP :p
But if you think about it, nobody wants to learn a totally new OS every couple of years so every new OS has to be a baby step ahead of the last.
