Will You Buy Windows 7???

I think a store ........ is still taking orders

That's where I've ordered from ... though the fact that they are still taking orders is giving me some concern given that other places sold out on the first day. If you read their T&Cs then it seems an order is not actually finally confirmed until they send you an email accepting the order - n.b. they also make clear that they send 2 prior emails saying that they have received the order but that these do not constitute acceptance of the order and that they reserve the right to basically then refuse to accept the order for any reason. From other info I suspect that this "acceptance of order" email is not likely to be sent until just before they get payment from credit card in October.

I'm afraid you seem to be right. I have had two emails from them, not a third. This is what it says in their T&C:

After you submit an order we will give you an Order Reference Number and details of the products you have ordered. We will send the same details to you in an e-mail (our first e-mail). We will then send a second email when we start to process your order. Please note that these e-mails are acknowledgements, not acceptance of your order.

Acceptance of your order and the creation of a legally binding contract between us will only occur when we send you a third e-mail, which will confirm your order and contain details of how we will deliver your products to you. (Alternatively, we may decline all or part of your order for any reason, in which case our third email will tell you so.)

This is only the second time I have used them - and against my better judgment. The first was a sham. I hope this doesn't turn into one as well.

This is the first time I have ordered from them. So I hope it all goes as planned. Tempted to pay the now slightly higher price from a better seller for piece of mind!

Skype is fine on an x64 OS and there's an x64 version of Virtual PC 2007 available too.

With regard to VPC 2007, be aware that it's not supported on Vista HP, only Business and Ultimate. Some people have managed to get it to install on HP but in a lot of cases it simply won't.

Not sure but this limitation could also apply to W7 HP/Pro/Ultimate too. There are also some other "sysadmin" type tools which require Vista Business or Ultimate which may also have the same requirements on W7 so, if you need any of these things, Pro might be the safer choice.

I'd be interested in the way that it'll be implemented.

(I'm assuming this is about the family pack)

Would think its just an extension of the current mechanism ... new windows install has to be authorised and that locks in a signature of the system which windows checks on each reboot ... once things get too different then a re-authorisation is required. Only difference is that MS will authorise 3 signatures for each license key. If re-authorisations get too frequent then I'd assume you'll get the "please call this number to explain what's going on" to catch people who install on 4+ machines and try to argue that as they never use more than 3 at once they are merely shuffling the licenses around. The WGA stuff around windows update probably also ensure that MS get a regular indication of which installs are active.

Anyway, MS already handle family packs on Office (home/student edition allows installs on 3 machines)

Yay managed to get HE at the £49.99 discount price, thought I'd missed the bandwagon. Let's hope the order goes through, although I won't keep my hopes up. Was considering a complete reinstall anyway at some point, might as well do it for a new OS.

... possible good news ... the website now says that 7E HP is now "SOLD OUT"

also, a press article on the first or second day of the offer I found had a quote from one of their spokespeople saying that anyone placing an order was "guaranteed to get the product within 7 days of the launch" or something like that

so perhaps feeling a bit more positive now!

Or they'll give you three product keys, but that's not what I'm interested in. I'm interested in the wording of the EULA.

No they don't. The licence states that you may run it on a mobile device, but it's not a 'family pack'.

That's good to hear.

I don't think this is the same website as I used, as they still have it in stock

You're right - it now says 'sold out'. This should hopefully be a good thing.

Probably the only person in britain who cares about that!! lol :D

Haha... Sorry, but that was quite funny.

From Microsoft office home and student edition FAQs

if you have purchased a retail license of Office Home and Student 2007. The retail license terms permit installation and use of Office Home and Student 2007 on three devices.

... for office student 2003 it was the same and you only got 1 license key

Very, very, very quick question.

Without naming anything at all, do we know if the cheap pre-orders are currently still available anywhere? As I say, don't name names, I just need to know if there is.

Ta :).

No, not at all.
If you're not going to read the license, agree to the license and then stick to it then you are no more legal than somebody downloading an illegal copy of the software.

There isn't really any middle ground with MS licenses.
Either buy the product and stick to the license agreement.
Or don't buy it.
There is no point spending money on an MS product and then not obeying the license agreement - you've just wanted your money.
