Activision have confirmed that CoD6 will have an RRP of £54.99 when its released later this year, thats an extra ten pounds. They say its because of rising cost of goods and currency value changes.

Personally Im not happy buying a game for that much money and cant remember the last time I payed over £40 for even a new game. I know online retailers wont sell it for that price exactly, but we are surely in for a price hike. Hasnt there been a call of duty game every year for the past 3 or 4 years now?

No doubt online gamers will be expected to pay an extra tenner a few months down the line for a few new maps, perhaps it wouldnt be so bad if they promised not to charge for DLC.

Theres a lot of good games coming out this winter, how will you guys all cope with the rising prices? I can imagine game swap and game rental sites going up in demand (which is bad for the game publishers overall) and of course the second hand market which again is bad for publishers.

My personal opinion is, like I said there are plenty of games being released, so enough to keep me busy until CoD6 drops in price.

If Activision finds it is successful, there's no doubt the other publishers will follow suit. It's a horrible situation for us gamers on the ground.

Im not sure all publishers would, perhaps only for big games they know will sell, I imagine some games at that price would get no interest.

Will PC games still remain considerably cheaper I wonder.

i rarely buy games as it is, this will just mean i buy less. i think by the time this year ends i'll have bought maybe 5 games. about 1/3 of last years total

the thing is there really isn't much pushing the price of games up by tenner, i could understand a couple of quid, transportation costs increasing and a few other bits and bobs but £10 per game is a bit ridiculous.

Just going to buy fewer games. Play less and make them last longer...

Games were that price or higher in the N64 era, wasnt uncommon for games to have a £59.99 RRP 10 years ago.

If anything it may push a lot of console gamers back to the pc, where the games are usually had for half of the console equivelants.

Activision are completely taking the **** with the price of this, they saw how successful COD4 was so are going to milk this for all its worth.
Especially with the £120 special edition and the fact they are releasing their own control pad to go with it.

All it would take is for a few like minded individuals to get a website sorted and maybe a facebook group where they start a movement to stop people buying the game on launch due to the prices.

If gamers stuck together we could dictate what is a reasonable price and what isn't, although I doubt it would ever happen.

This is one of the reasons I will never fully make the move to console gaming, added to the fact that developers seem to be churning out more of the same instead of coming out with something new.

Anyone with a brain won't buy this on launch and will wait a couple of months.

Because the carts themselves were very expensive to make. Each copy of MW2 costs them 1p to make :p

Likewise to other people, I will no longer take risks on games that 'might' be good but dont want to spend £60 trying them. It probably will push some people to piracy but I suspect those in general that do this will continue to do this - even those that say 'if games were cheaper they'd buy them' (I suspect their opinion would change to 'well theyre cheap so the games companies arent missing out if 1 person doesnt pay for them...')

I'll stick to looking for hot deals and buy older cheaper games until companies see sense or the latest games arent so new and you can pick them up cheaper. If high prices result in lower sales then people will more likely make Gears of war 7 than the next innovative title :(

If game's go above £40 on release i simply won't buy them. It's been a personal rule of mine for the best part of a decade; never buy a game until it's £39.99 or lower.

same just like infamous at a certain highstreet retailer, still havent bought it glad I didnt now

If it's the shape of things to come then i'll investigate importing for the PS3 on major titles. Like Streeteh, i draw the line at £39.99. £54.99 is ripping the ****

I also usually buy all major titles but i'll rent them for 360 as well as importing for PS3 :)

Looks like i'm actually fortunate for thinking CoD4 was overhyped as hell, i'm not saying it's a bad game, far from it, but i played games i preferred in 2007.

I'll be able to resist the temptation to buy, bet it'll only be 5 hours long again too :E
