Looks like we are in for a rough time as game RRP rises

Since the good old days of the SNES and Megadrive / Genesis games have always been £39.99, anymore than that and it's getting silly.
Guess I'll be waiting longer for sale items and second-hand games :(

Too right they're taking the ****. Cant blame them, COD4 was amazing and sold loads- just look at the price it still is. But its too far because other publishers will follow suit. Just like MS and the arcade titles, 1200 points for sploision man, really? PFFFFT.

Ive only seen Modern Warfare 2 at 55 quid RRP are there any others? If not Activision are clearly taking the mickey.

Activision need to go bust...... soon ;)

They are just testing the waters to see if gamers will pay the extra. Most will not as this is extortion I hope it backfires and they lose sales because of this. If anything the 12m plus gamers worldwide who made COD4 such a massive financial success should be rewarded by getting a cheaper game. I mean they must have generated around £150M from COD4 after dev costs. How much money do they want  how about they ONLY release the £119.99 package

This just demonstrates once again that all the big publishers are out to screw us for as much £££ as possible.

I think most gamers are happy to pay £39.99 if a game gives them a reasonable number of hours entertainment. Anything more is pushing it like this new DLC craze ;)

Anyone get the irony with Activision saying the high price of the PS3 is making it harder to sell games on the PS3 then they put the price up on there games? Or is it just me
EA have said they are not going to follow suit as there is no need to, Is this a little dig against there nearest rival? I think so and fair play to EA, Activision have been a little bit to vocal and the Brutal Legend thing is just stupid. Getting rid of an IP and selling it to another company then threaten to take them to court if they release it, shows how petty they have become. Hopefully (and i know it wont happen) no one will buy MW2 until the price drops, but we all know its going to sell more than any other game this year and thats why they can charge as much as they want.

People WILL buy this, it's prequel has been voted as 'the best game ever made' in a huge poll in 2008. People lap this **** up, they love the simple, generic but instantly satisfying single player, they love the easy to play, autoaimfest that is the multiplayer. They like everything about this game, so it'll sell, and it'll sell well and we'll all suffer because of it.

CoD4 was the summer hit album of the gaming industry, it tapped veins that publishers didn't even know existed. I view it as a sign of things to come and i do not like the view.

Bleh, wine makes me dramatic it seems ;/

I very very rarely pay £40 for a game on release and only do so if I've been really looking forward to it. All it means for me is that I'm going to have to wait for longer until I buy it.

If memory serves me, I paid nearly £60 for Aliens vs Predator on my Jaguar when it came out, and it was worth every penny – but no way in hell would I consider paying that for a game now; it was bad enough paying almost £45 for the new Call of Juarez – but I traded in old stuff to get it so it wasn’t real money :D

Scort.

lol nothing can beat the 74.99 price for turok dinosaur hunter on the n64 when it came out

think mario 64 was actually 64.99 at launch as well

The only game that I've payed more than £40 for since getting my PS3 was Infamous, and it's going to stay that way for the forseeable future! I have no real desire to go out and spend more than £30 at most on games, considering the majority hit this price point within a month or so of being out. Unless it's something that I've looked forward to for a long time, I won't be paying upwards of £30; next thing I pay full whack for is Bioshock 2.

Incidentally a friend of mine told me tonight that he'd pre-ordered COD6 for £37.99 online; while £55 may be the RRP, it won't be selling at that anywhere but the high street!

I have only recently had my PS3. In that time I have bought LBP for £8.50, SF4 for £18, Killzone 2 for £17 and Metal Gear Solid 4 for £10.50 all free postage. The only Game I have looked into buying (which is still a new release) is ghostbusters which would cost the best part of £40 wherever I bought it from so I'll wait (plenty to play anyway) There is no need to rush out to the highstreet to buy the lastest game.

On a side note, 15+ years ago SNES games were £39.99-64.99 and people earned a lot less than they do now so I don't find todays prices hard to believe.

Meh!

I've got so many games backed on my shelf unplayed COD6 will be £15 by the time I get round to buying it. I just can't resist buying games when I see them cheap even though I don't have the time to play the damn things.

Edit: ^^^ Just read that back and it sounded like a boasty statement. Wasn't meant to be.:)
