IDE Harddisk to SATA adaptor?

Hi folks,

Currently upgrading an old rig, which was running on an AMD. I think it runs on an old AMD 64bit CPU with Asus K8V SE Deluex board and Radeon 9800 PRO gfx.

I bought a new bundle from OCUK: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-007-OB&groupid=43&catid=339&subcat=

Now this board only offer 1 IDE slot. I have 1 DVD-ROM and 1 Maxtor IDE Harddisk on 30GB, and I need both of them to be running on this machine (For windows setup and odd DVD viewing here and there)

Is there any adaptor that would allow me connect an IDE harddisk to SATA slot? I think I heard something like this a long time ago when SATA was just becoming the new thing. A quick search showed no avail. Please could anyone shed me some light on this?
 
you can still get the ide to sata adaptors, bit pricey tho.
can you not just have your hdd on the primary cable and you dvd rom on secondary cable?

or just buy a sata hdd :P

I could do so if the cable would reach. This is a PC upgrade for my dad, though running a pretty powerful setup because I'm going to move to another country so I need something will keep him happy for good few years.

No reason why not, a single IDE interface supports 2 devices (master and slave). It'll just run at the speed of the slowest device, but an old 30GB drive is hardly going to be the raciest anyway.

Is it possible to have DVD-ROM on master and HDD on slave without having the pc going crazy?

Need to fiddle around in order for the cable to reach, with the case setup and all.
 
Yeah will work fine :) You can get longer IDE cables (cant remember the standard or other lengths but if you measure yours it should be more obvious) which will be easier and cheaper.

Sorry I'm a bit slow on this, you have to bear with me. This means I'll have to set the DVD-ROM's jumper to master and HDD's jumper to slave right?
 
Yep. Just make sure the DVD is the first drive on the cable and the HD is the last (second of the two), that will be fine.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter whether the master is first or second on the cable.
If the drives have a Cable Select (CS) you can use that and the computer will take care of itself.
