ID games - how are you supposed to say it?

ive always thought it was just "id"
dunno where this I.D came from or spelling it all uppercase like ID

I'm almost certain that it is pronounced "id".

I used to say I.D. in the nineties, then I learned the error of my ways.
I think the problem is that while "id software" is clear, just saying "id" in conversation can be a little confusing as it's such a short syllable.

I used to hate watching Star Trek TNG and hearing Patrick Stewart say the word route but pronounce it 'rowt'. I used to bristle at the sound of an inverse tachyon pulse being rerouted through the main deflector.

Correct way is "id" but I usually find myself saying Eydee as I suppose id (its proper meaning) isnt a word that pops up too often in conversation.
Ahh the joys of English ignorance.. guilty as charged :D

Annoyed me too, how could a well respected member of the RSC stoop to Americanisations

By the way, nice use of techno-babble and worrying that I know which episode it's from ;)
