MP's want £25 a day for food?

£25 a day when away from home isn't that much really..

it's hard to find somewhere half decent to eat 3 times a day for £25.

Point is that you would have eaten if you were at home. And you get this allowance when staying in your second home so why is cooking for yourself in your second house dearer than cooking at home?

I agree with this, when i'm in london on business i get a free meal on the way down on the train with my 1st class ticket, spend about £7 on lunch if i goto Pret A Manger or EAT etc, depending if i'm with others for evening meals between 20 and 35+.

Costs soon add up if you want good food.

i like subway, but it's hard to stomach 'fast food' when you have it almost every day...

but I do agree, they should pay out of their own pocket, since they make so much anyway.

was just saying £25 isn't that much for a whole day's worth of food when you're at work, especially if you were at a hotel etc

whilst at home, you can quite easily live off about £2-4 a day

Indeed, i'm just a student but whenever I do work away form the lab, like attending a conference or a meeting I have a food allowance closer to £40 a day.

Can't they just take sandwiches from home? Or pay out of the ridiculous wage they already get? Why do they think they're above the rest of the public, pretty annoying how out of touch they are.

It is a lot when we already pay for them to have a second home close to parliament to live in, it's complete nonsense that we should pay for them to have an extra home for them not to live or eat in it...

And the other point is... When was the last time you got a raise of £3000 to buy your lunches?

£25 isn't much really if you're away on business. I don't really have a problem with it to be honest. My girlfriend works for a large multinational and she gets the same.

Hmm... just noticed this paragraph
The Telegraph said MPs have now agreed a scheme allowing them to claim 25 pounds a night, or up to 9,125 pounds a year, when staying away from their designated main home on parliamentary business

Does this mean they can claim this even though they may be staying at their own second home?

It's totally different if you get these kind of perks when working for a company. Because you and/or your company earned the extra money you can spend by being a successful business.

MPs get to decide their own wages regardless of how well they are doing and we have no direct choice on this.

A few people here seem to be missing the fact that this new allowance is for subsistence only while MPs are away from their designated main home and on parliamentary business.

As other members have stated, £25 a night while away from home is no exorbitant sum of money, and if parliamentary business is the only reason an MP is away from home, why should they be obligated to fund their subsistence during that time out of their own pocket?

This new rule is for £25 per day to cover expenses incurred when staying away from home on business.
That isn't the same as £25 every day!

yes it is "staying away from their designated main home on parliamentary business."

Meaning everytime they come to london or if their main home isnt in london but their 2nd home is they can just rack it up.

They shouldn't be able to claim for anything any normal person can, even self employed people cant claim that much per day for meals.

They are like pigs at the trough, will take anything they can get their grubby mitts on, they are all as bad as each other.
