Police new head scarfs

because every Muslim in the country is part of this one homogeneous "Muslim community"?

Could it be some are willing to integrate and some aren't?

But of course treating them all separately would just be silly, best to lump them all in together.

Muslims do generally tend to congregate in communities, and hence why they are being lumped together.

Its not a bad thing, and tbh if Britain had kept some form of community then we would not feel underthreat by people who have some form of identity.

Divided we fall, united we stand (or something like that :D).

This thread is both amusing and shocking in equal measure...

How often are the police in Somerset and Avon likely to have to go in a mosque? I very much doubt it happens on a daily basis. If they were asked to do something before they enter a regular ol' church, would everyone kick up such a fuss?

Is it just me or does anyone else think this is very sexist? No one seems to be speaking about it

I mean we know that Muslim women cover up as its part of their religion, however to require a female officer to cover their heads just to appeal to them is quite shocking! Especially considering the strength of the womans rights movement and equality in this country.

It just goes against everything British women stand for.

"Muslim" is a race now?

You know what i mean

Which is the reason why threads about muslims are always different to threads about other religions ;)

Why 'build bridges' with the muslim community when they do not want any bridges?

There are some Muslims who have embraced the British way of life, and are proud of being British, but sadly not all the Muslims want to do this as they are living in fear.

The younger Muslim generation are the key to getting the older Muslims to join and really become apart of Britain.

Thats the whole point they are not asked to take off/wear anything in a normal church in the UK

I'd not want to wear that if I was a female officer having to go into a mosque, my religion does not require them so why should I wear them?

And do you honestly think the police are going to be refused entry into a mosque if they don't wear the head scarf? Of course they won't. It's about showing respect, it's not a rule that the muslims have set for the rest of us...

You guys know that its respectful to remove your hat when entering a Church? I'm not particularly religious, but I do favours for my mum's local church, Fixing computers\painting and decorating. And I always remove my hat upon entering, Even though I don't follow the faith, It's just good manners, And it's not like it's painful to do.

I think this head scarf thing is in the same sort of boat. It takes a little bit more effort to put on clothes than take off clothes, But I don't see the big fuss in it.

Some people just seem to want to take offense if anything requires them to take a step out of the norm.

Its a totally different kettle of fish. You taking your hat off is a sign of respect and endears your character.

Wearing a headscarf is an explicit form of submission. Read WHY woman are made to wear the headscarf.

Taking off a hat when entering anywhere is a common theme in the western world. Its more traditional respect than a specific gesture to the church.

Having women wear a headcovering is a completely different issue. Your opening up a whole new can of worms with that.

If I needed to enter a Mosque and I was wearing a hat, I'd take my hat off as a sign of respect, but I wouldn't expect my ex-girlfreind to wear a headcovering when her policing job required her to enter a mosque in this country.

Actually, I never thought of that aspect of it. :\

So basically, These police women are being asked to wear the head scarfs, which is in essence a sign that women are still seen as being worth less than men.

The point is that a muslim woman just refuses to take off her scarf yet they expect a policewoman to put on one, looks like double standards to me.

I think it's more disrespectful to expect people to wear their religious attire than it is for somebody to refuse it tbh
