£500 laptop for Half Life 2 and CS: Source

I have been wanting to know this, i dont own a copy of COD 4 :( i might end up buying a copy at some point though.

Yes, it'll play CoD4 fine - I've been playing through CoD:WaW on mine with the settings pretty much maxed out :)

Am I right in saying that these laptops have a spare HDD bay for an additional drive?

The 6930G does, but it requires a different bay cover to be purchased at ~£17 from Acer, the original default cover doesn't let you fit another drive in.

Just found this

Acer Aspire 8930G-944G64BN
T9400 2.53
4GB ram
2 x 320 5400rpm drives
18.4 (1920 x 1200)
9700GT 512mb DDR3

£615.93

Going to call and see what the crack is?

Yeh it's called a scam site. :D I would do a Google check on the company first (do a reverse DNS lookup as well). Cause there are a few very hookum sites out there that look almost legit

I got a refurb 8920G for my sister as a wedding gift (which has 9500GT and is last years version of the 8930G). It's really a nice sort of desktop replacement that although bulky is still quite lightweight. The keyboard action is good. It ticks all the boxes: wi-fi .11 a/b/c/n, BT, 54 PCIe slot, BD rom drive, SPDIF DD-Live 5.1, etc. Has good battery life. Doesn't run hot (well the 9500GT doesn't anyway)/ is quiet. I also used it as a file server and it was stable running 24/7 with a PM eSATA express card.

I installed Vista Ultimate (64-bit), Windows XP (64-bit) and Linux-Mint 7 (64-bit) in a triple boot. Getting ALSA to play ball with the SPDIF was a major struggle on Linux  Anyway I got rid of all the **** it comes installed (on Vista 32 Home Premium 32-bit)! I also decided I really hate Vista so spent most of my time playing in Windows XP x64 on it

It's under the right palm rest. As said, Raid isn't supported by the chipset, unfortunately :(

My secondary HDD bay currently has my 360 pad wireless reciever in it for some internal wireless pad joy :p

how does it feel? like shiny metal? I can't imagine using it, do you know of any shops I could try one out in? Do your fingers lose the trackpad because its all the same texture as the wrist rest?

You can try one out i guess, they are out in the shop where i got mine.

I have never had any issues with it. The trackpad is sunk below the wrist pad.

Not anymore they aren't was told today when I visited "said" shop and they said web order only now!

The material the trackpad is made of feels like 'dry' plastic, i.e. it's not shiny and it doesn't feel 'sticky' the way some plastic can do. It's sunken but the actual trackpad stops about half a cm before you reach the edge so you could get a little lost at first.

There's a gap between the edges of the keyboard and the outer casing of the laptop. It looks like it'll attract a lot of dirt and hair. But on the plus side it has a numeric pad which you don't get with all laptop keyboards.

Has yours arrived?

It arrived about an hour ago. Just finished burning the restore disks. So far it's been fairly straightforward. The sound quality is fantastic, plenty of bass.

Are you creating them via the supplied (what ever that is) software?

Keyboard feel sturdy enough?

Shame they didn't have any in store for me to look at this morning, can return if I don't like it within 7 days I suppose.....

Yes, it split it over 2 DVDs. To be honest, I wasn't paying much attention to it. I suppose it took about 45 minutes.

The keyboard is surprisingly sturdy. I used to use a Pavilion and an Inspiron and this feels stronger than both of them. I was really surprised.

I think the 7 day returns policy is standard for anything you order online or over the phone, providing it's in resalable condition. The place I bought it from advertised it with a different graphics card to the one that's actually installed so that alone should give you grounds to return it if you don't like it.
