HTC Hero, coming July on Orange and T-Mobile, makes me want!

Had mine for 2 days now and I absolutely love it. Had a bit of trouble setting up my Google account but other than that it's fantastic. Highly customizable and so many features already on the phone and to download. I thought the "chin" would be offputting, but its really not. Only downpoints are the 5MP camera is quite slow at focusing and the picture quality isnt perfect and it occasionally lags whilst flicking through windows. A great phone, however.

A couple of questions for Hero owners while I eagerly await mine:
1) How accurate is the Hero at linking your phone contacts with their profiles on Facebook? If it finds one of your contacts Facebook profiles does it take their display picture and use it for their contact picture?
2) Can you check to see if the music play can play AAC VBR files?

1) When you add a contact you can link it and its pretty straight forward [you just search their name in the facebook list, which automatically comes up]. And yes, it takes their display pic as the contact pic.
2) I'm not big on my file types, but on the box it says AAC (AAC, AAC+, AAC-LC)

I'm thinking about buying the Hero unlocked and going Sim Only with O2, I have a couple of quesitons (have looked through T&C on O2 site but non the wiser).

I want to use the internet with my Hero, upon selecting the bolt-ons on the O2 site there is 'Unlimited Web' and another choice for 'Unlimited Wifi', does this mean that if I choose the Web bolt-on that I can't connect to my home network for free? Or does 'Unlimited Wifi' mean somtehing else, like a different kind of mobile network that I don't know about? Cheers.

Unlimited Web is unlimited edge or 3G (there's some fair use limit, it used to be 200mb, not sure what it is now)

unlimited wifi is connection to the cloud network. Its a bunch of wifi hot spots spread around the country. So if you're in range of one you could log onto it when you're out.

You can always log onto your on wifi with or without the wifi add on.

Fantastic thanks for that. I don't need to bother transferring all my contacts pictures over now :).

Mine was dispatched today for next day delivery so *fingers crossed* it will arrive tomorrow a long with my 16Gb class 6 card tomorrow to :D.

Had one - didn't really like it

Fair enough! :) Horses for courses!

I have the HTC Hero, and one thing that bugs me is that I can't change my SMS alert tone :( I'm not sure if it's because I'm a 'tard or if it's just not possible.

That aside though, despite the slow CPU it's a very capable phone.

It's not the waiting as such - it's being told something several times and a company not delivering; and as a first time buyer with them it doesn't leave the best impression!
