BMW - Replacement Model Badge

Regardless of whether BMW put them on non M cars or not, it looks half baked and wannabe like.

Was it actually put on the back of non-M5 E39's as standard or an option?

My car shares parts (very few :p) with the Integra Type R but theres no "Type" badges or a sniff of red trim on my car.

I've thought plenty of adding some Rover stuff however.

My 540i has an M badge on the gear lever and on the steering wheel.
I have no idea why it's there on the gear lever. Yes it's the same gearbox as in the M5 but it's not an M car or even a Sport model. Was factory fit though and standard.

as for the original question, don't get a badge from ebay, they're generally tatty fakes for all car models

going from what others have said in the past

It's a sport trim though yeah? all sport trims have m on various trim bits :p my gear nob also has an M in the middle, short gear lever too!

M badges dont mean M car parts, they mean M tech (or whatever they call the department) parts. It would be like Mercedes calling the C63 AMG the AMG-C. M is the sports/tuning part of BMW, who apply some sports tuning to some cars, and make all out hardcore cars aswell.

If there are M badges on the car they have M tech stuff in them, and therefore there is nothing fake about them being there. If the M cars were called something else this would be an issue.

I fail to see why advertising a car as having a lady owner is a good thing? You can rest assured it has been driven into things, redlined and the clutch all but knackered.

i've always got my dad to tick 'debadge' on the option list
i think it looks a lot cleaner and it hides the fact it's a 525d

I hate debaged BMWs...all it means is you have a crap engine and a crap spec and are trying to cover it up.
nonsense. i really think some BMWs look better with the badge
whether you have the badge or not has nothing to do with the spec
our 5 has pretty much everything except the M kit, HUD, active steering, and rear heated seats..

OK. The car in question is a BMW 130i M-Sport. Bought today. Very happy and a huge upgrade from my Alfa 147 1.6.
Decided I want it debadged, so I guess it'll be a semi-sleeper, although the twin exhausts kinda give it away.
I will try at the weekend to get the M badge off. I've heard a hairdryer normally does the trick. Any other suggestions?

Hot water and a fishing line.

Hairdryer and fishing line to 'saw' through the sticky stuff with.

Wrong, "True M cars" came first. - The first official M-badged car for sale to the public was the M1, revealed at the Paris Motor Show in 1978,

I did mention with the exception of the M1 - a rather different beast to the rest of the M range I think you'll agree.

the e28 M535i came along in 1979 it featured suspension, styling, and transmission improvements over the standard 535i. These changes were carried out by BMW Motorsport, thus the car carried "M" stripe badges on the front grille and boot, quite a bit more than merely an M badged e28.

So exactly the same as the relationship between a 328i Sport and a regular 328i then, for example, as I quite clearly said. Lets take a 96 328i Sport - over a conventional 328i it has M-Tech styling, suspension and an LSD... and is M badged on both door sides..

awesome car. now you need to stick £000s of Performance tat on it :D

M-tech badges on the back are a bit lame, it's like people who put AMG badges on the back of normal Mercs. The excuse that 'oh it's got 42 badges elsewhere on the car, one more doesn't matter' isn't really justification, looks relatively out of place since no other car has them on the back..
